Serves: 2

125g frozen blueberries
100g frozen unsweetened açai pulp, coarsely chopped
1 very ripe frozen banana, coarsely chopped
]⁄2 cup (125g) coconut kefir or natural yoghurt
2 teaspoons GLOW Inner Beauty Powder
1⁄4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons chia seeds
2 teaspoons cacao nibs*


1 small ripe banana, peeled and sliced 6-10 fresh blueberries 2 tablespoons granola 1 tablespoon finely chopped pistachios 1 tablespoon goji berries 1 teaspoon bee pollen (not suitable for those with bee allergies) 1 teaspoon hemp seeds (optional)

To make the smoothie, blend the blueberries, açai, banana, kefir or yoghurt and GLOW powder, if using, cinnamon, chia seeds and cacao nibs in a high-speed blender, until smooth and creamy.

Pour the smoothie into two wide shallow serving bowls. Decorate with toppings. Eat immediately.

What does a cosmetic consultation involve?

It was announced that as a nation, for the first time ever, we’ve splashed out more than $1 billion on non-invasive cosmetic treatments in 2016, a 25 per cent growth since 2015.

The knowledge and technology has come a long way. Gone are the days of the frozen and over inflated faces (well, not for some)! At Face Plus Medispa we only ever prescribe the patient with what will appear most natural.

The Face Plus Medispa’s cosmetic consultation process is a key point of difference and strength. First timers will breeze through their consultation and treatment, wondering “why have I been putting this off for so long?”.

Cosmetic consultation process:
1. The first step is, we ask a lot of questions. If you have already experience a Face Plus skin consultation you already have an idea of how thorough we are during this process. Read more here

Your nurse injector will ask about your diet and lifestyle habits. A quick skin assessment will be performed and the aging process will be explained.

2. If you have arrived with make-up on your nurse will remove any make-up if necessary and take some snap shots to save them into your records

3. The nurse will then hand you a mirror and ask you to point out your areas of concern, areas you would like to enhance or change. Your nurse will listen to your needs, watch your facial movements and identify how to best treat the areas specified, cosmetically.

4. A bespoke treatment plan will be devised, identifying which products would be most appropriate, how many and ensure that it works within your budget.

Face Plus Medispa carry all available muscle relaxants, dermal fillers and sculpting product available in the market, this allows us to create a treatment plan perfectly tailored to your needs. The treatment plan may also include skin treatments and home care products to work with the proposed injectable treatment plan.

5. A doctor’s consultation is always needed prior to any injectable treatment, this is a strict protocol prior to prescribing a Schedule 4 injectable.

The nurse injector may invite a doctor into the room or alternatively video call a doctor, allowing them to see a clear image of the patients face and muscle contractions, movement and volume loss.

Once you confirm you would like to go ahead with the first step of your plan, your first treatment can happen on the same day as the consultation if the appropriate amount of time has been allocated.

Wellness: What even is wellness?

The word ‘wellness’ is having a real moment in health and wellbeing circles. 

Chances are you have heard the word dropped into casual conversations in your gym or when buying your acai bowl. But what actually is wellness?

The definition of wellness is a healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit.
So with that in mind, wellness is actually far more than the food you eat and how often you exercise.

While these two components of health and wellbeing are important in the grand scheme of wellness, they are NOT the only things to think about – which is where a lot of health circles and “fitspo” pages tend to fall short.

I describe wellness to my clients as when your physical and mental health align. It is all well and good if you are training every day and drinking your green smoothies – but if you are only getting 3 hours of sleep a night, spend the day in shallow breathing because you are so stressed, if you hate your job and don’t feel you have a purpose, and all of your relationships are challenging – then all the kale salads and ab selfies in the world aren’t going to make you feel 100% aligned in your health and wellbeing.

To feel truly well on all levels, here are some lifestyle areas for you to review:

  • Sleep: are you getting between 7-9 hours and waking up feeling energised and excited for the day?
  • Career: Do you feel like you are contributing to something greater than yourself? Most importantly, do you love your job?
  • Relationships: Are your relationships easy, balanced and inspiring, or draining and demanding?
  • Nutrition: Do you eat because you love to nourish your body, or out of fear of putting on weight?

Self love: What they should be teaching you at school

When Justin Bieber sang “You should go and love yourself” he was on to a very good thing.

Self love is one of the most undervalued health tools alongside sleep and rest in my eyes.

Read about our favourite sleepy tea here and because it is such a foreign concept, when you bring it up as a health topic, people tend to shy away from it.

Why? Because when you talk about ‘loving yourself’ a natural response is to assume that this is a selfish or arrogant way to live. We live in a world where it is expected to put everyone else’s needs before yourself.

Any wonder most of us relate to being a people pleaser? Going out of your way to do things for other people, make other people feel comfortable and loved and welcome, ignoring the little niggle within us crying out for our OWN love and support?

It is time to flip this stigma on its head once and for all. Self love is the most valuable gift you can give yourself, and here is why…

You will be able to give MORE
Picture self love like a cup that needs to be filled. The more you fill your cup with, the more full of water it becomes, even until it is overflowing.

If you have an overflowing cup, then there is plenty of water to give to others, right? Self love acts in this exact way. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

The more full, or overflowing, your self love cup, the more love and energy you will naturally be able to give other people. The emptier your cup, the more drained your energy and ability to give 100% your all to others.

In fact, if you are running on empty and not ‘topping up’ your self love cup, then you run the very real risk of fatigue and burnout. Self love is the remedy for this. You will be a better partner, parent and friend as a result of it.
Your energy will thrive
Self love assumes that you put your energy first – meaning listening to your body and resting when needed, without the guilt factor. We are not meant to operate at a go-go-go level each and every day, but because this is such a common way of living, we consider it normal.

When you are coming at your energy from a place of self love, you respect your body’s need for rest and recharge – every single day.

Spending your Sundays on the couch, taking nana naps and watching Netflix can actually be BENEFICIAL to your health if it is what your tired body is crying out for. Respect your body enough to give it rest – even 5 minutes – every single day. And be sure to prioritise your sleep – 7-9 hours is paramount for optimal wellbeing.

Your confidence will soar
When you are bursting with self love, you wake up feeling genuinely GOOD about yourself – regardless of what you look like, and regardless of what the scales say. That’s the dream, right?

An easy way to develop great self love and self confidence practices is to start an affirmation practice. Repeat to yourself every single day an affirmation about yourself that you wish to manifest: perhaps it is “I am healthy and glowing with happiness” or “My body is strong and toned”. Continue repeating this in your head throughout the day – remember, what you think, you become.
You will be kinder and gentler
When you practice self love, your patience soars. We are our own harshest critics and it is extremely difficult to silence that ego-fuelled voice in our own heads, telling us we are not good enough.

The more you practice silencing this voice in yourself, the gentler you will be with other people – as you recognise we are ALL fighting our own inner battles.

You will naturally become a kinder and more patient person, with others and most importantly, with yourself.
You will inspire others
When you are living your life unashamedly from a place of love, you inspire others to do the same. You will emit a glow of happiness and health that is entirely because of how you see yourself.

You will choose to eat foods that make you feel good, you will move your body because you respect yourself enough to exercise, and you will only say yes to doing the things that make you genuinely happy.

Leading by example is a wonderful way to live your life, as you leave a wave of inspiration behind you for others to mirror.
Your health will be at its best
Finally, self love is paramount if you want to ditch diets and fad exercise regimes once and for all. If you are bursting with love for yourself every day – the decisions you make for your health will be 100% aligned to love.

Gone will be the binges, flogging your body at the gym without a break, saying yes to please others and sticking it out at the job you hate. Your sleep will improve, your skin will glow and your body will be healthy and strong.

Vision: top tips for setting and achieving goals

A new year often signifies the perfect opportunity to set your goals for the year ahead.

Whether a regular ‘goal-setter’ or not, there is real merit in setting goals leading to a higher quality life – greater motivation, feelings of positivity and success and an all-round inspiring lifestyle as you tick wonderful goals off your 2017 to-do list.

There can be conflicting advice when it comes to goal setting. Some people keep their goals to themselves, not telling anyone and quietly working away in the background. Others shout their goals from the rooftops, claiming the more people they tell, the more accountable they will feel when working at achieving their goals.

I am going to let you in on a little secret – there is no ONE ‘right’ way for setting and achieving goals. However, in my time as a wellness coach, there ARE some habits all of my successful clients have had in common when it has come to absolutely smashing their goals – ranging from leaving jobs for dream careers, travelling the world and regaining their physical and mental health.

Here are a few of their top traits:

Get clear about what you WANT

Make sure your goal is as crystal clear as it can possibly be. Rather than “I want a new job”, include SPECIFICS about the job you are looking to find. For example, I had a client who wanted to leave her current role.

She didn’t know exactly what she wanted to find, however there were TRAITS she wanted her new role to embody. So, her goal was “In 12 weeks I will have found a new role, at a company that inspires me, with a short commute and no need for public transport, allowing me a life outside work, with a salary of $x”.

Sure enough, 12 weeks later, she was walking into her brand-new role which ticked all of these boxes.

Write it down – every day
Keeping a journal is an important way to really stay committed to your goals. By writing down the goals you want to achieve, and reflecting on these regularly, you will be able to monitor your thoughts around these goals – because here’s another thing – they might just change! A few months after setting a particular goal, you might find it isn’t for you anymore.

That is OKAY! But unless you are committed to showing up and putting in the work towards achieving these goals every day, then it is easier to forget them and push them to the side. Journaling keeps you accountable and helps crystallise ways around HOW will you achieve your goals.
Vision boards 
If you aren’t entirely sure what your goals are for the year ahead, vision boards are a wonderful way of discovering what it is you are passionate about. Take some time to sit with a heap of magazines, or scroll through inspiring pages on Instagram, and notice the images and words that capture your attention. Collate a Pinterest board, or cork board, of these images and notice an underlying theme form.

A client of mine, after working on her vision board, realised that it was a dream of hers to work at a retreat in Hawaii. Literally 1 month after this realisation, she had left her secure corporate role and is moving to live and work in Hawaii for 3 months this year.
Set goals in the POSITIVE
Words are SO powerful. Too often we set ourselves up for failure by setting goals in the negative.
For instance, “I won’t eat chocolate anymore” should instead be “I will eat less chocolate next week than I did this week.”

Setting positive goals allows much greater chance for success and is a far gentler approach, with limited pressure. Look at what you WILL do rather than what you WON’T.

Set yourself up for SUCCESS not failure
Too often we set ourselves these intense, crazy goals, knowing in the back of our mind we will never reach them, then beating ourselves up about it when we don’t because we feel like a failure. Goal setting should be fun and

ACHIEVABLE! Yes, there should be an element of challenge, but not so much to be causing you stress every day.

Set small goals, in weekly blocks, rather than massive 1-year goals, and see how good you feel when you achieve these. CELEBRATE when you achieve the goals that were more challenging.
