Never say never: Is it time to consider these treatments?

Once you get over the fact that you’re in your 30’s, being 30-something is pretty amazing.

The aging process for most becomes quite visible in your 30’s and we believe that you should be armed with all of the right information before you begin to consider more targeted treatments.

At the age of 30 you may begin to see some spots appearing on the skin, maybe on your face, neck, décolletage or even your hands?

These age spots will make you appear older. There are so many reasons why these blemishes form but your 30’s are a great time to start removing and further preventing.

Barrier: Sun block

Sunscreen use should be a part of everyone’s daily routine.

Be prepared, we are going to lecture you a little in this blog! By the end, you should have a pretty good understanding of what the sun is capable of and you’ll be reaching for that sunscreen 24/7.

Australia has one of highest rates of skin cancer. Anyone can develop skin cancer and the risks are even higher as you get older.

We do need a little vitamin D to keep our bones and muscles in tip top shape but the skin can burn from just 15 minutes of exposure!
Majority of skin cancers in Australia are caused by the exposure to UV radiation in sunlight.

The sun emits three varying kinds of UV radiation: UVA, UVB & UVC. UVC rays are filtered by the ozone, 10% of UVB and 95% of UVA rays reach the surface of the earth.

The sun is largely responsible for the vast majority of visible aging. In a study performed by the L’Oreal Reach and Innovation center, Paris in 2013 they found that UV rays accounted for 80% of skin ageing. Long term UV exposure leads to pigmentation, reduced elasticity and impact the texture of the skin.

Those who had sun damage were found to appear older than their age. In your 20’s you’re carefree and love that sun kissed look. The time to repair the damage done is in your 30’s.

How to: Look good in your 30’s

Tips on how to have healthy looking skin in your 30’s.

1. Are you wearing sunscreen? Step it up a notch, invest in a few hats.Beach hats and everyday baseball caps, the more protection you provide your skin the better.

2. Be aware of your facial expressions. We love our laugh lines but there are frown lines that sometimes give away more than you would like. Be conscious of your expressions when stressed, concentrating or even angry.

This action alone will really help with those lines. Do try and stress less, you can read some of our stress management techniques HERE

3. Keep it clean! Get great makeup brushed and clean them on a regular basis. Read our how to HERE . Keep the skin clean too, cleanse at the end of each day. If you tend to wear make up on a daily basis consider double cleansing.

4. We hope you’re moisturising, don’t neglect your neck, décolletage and HANDS!

5. In terms of makeup, don’t overdo it but get to know, highlighter. The light reflecting off the selected areas of skin will bring out your natural features whilst making your skin appear healthy, fresh and young.

6. Hair, the malting is not limited to summer now. It’s time to have a strong idea of what suits you. Find a hairdresser and stick to them. Start incorporating a leave in conditioner to keep the mane healthy, shiny and strong.

7. Healthy eating is important now more than ever. As you enter into your 30’s, your body will begin to reach its toxicity limit and cannot process toxins as well as it used to.

The build-up of toxins can occur due to too much caffeine or alcohol, not drinking enough water, junk food, stress, lack of sleep and exercise. This results in your metabolism slowing right down and you won’t look or feel as great as you use to. You need to rethink your lifestyle choices, no more crash dieting, don’t skip meals and plan meals!

8. Sleep. If you’re not getting enough sleep this can lead to a dull complexion and dark circles, you appear much older than you are. You may also find that the caffeine is keeping you up.

I’m in my thirties: Should I have it all figured out?

Nobody has the same story so don’t compare your life with other’s.

Disclaimer alert – I am not yet in my thirties. However, I do have a lot of friends who have reached this ‘milestone’ and additionally, see many clients in their thirties and above.

A recurring theme I have noticed with most of these people (as well as myself and my friends who have thirty ‘looming’ in the horizon) is that, come thirty, we put this immense pressure on ourselves to have our lives sorted.

Surely in our thirties we should be married with kids (or on the way there), we should be working our dream jobs with amazing careers, we should own a home, and have travelled the world…I could go on, but to be honest it exhausts me.

All of these ‘shoulda’ – as if life is a series of tick boxes.
The truth of the matter is, once you hit thirty, you DON’T have to have life figured out. In fact, I see clients well into their sixties who don’t have all the answers – and this is NORMAL.

It is part of life. And yet, for some reason we are so hard on ourselves when we haven’t achieved a certain amount of “things” by the time we reach an age milestone. Let’s flip our thoughts shall we.

What really matters to you?
Really – what are your key values? What makes you happy and lights you up? Often, we get so caught up in a life we think we ‘should’ be living, that we lose sight of what is actually important to us.

For some, this may be health and vitality. For others, maybe it is family and time spent with loved ones.

Recalibrating what ACTUALLY matters to you, and then positioning your energy on THESE things is an incredible way to start shifting the way you see your life.

Don’t know where to start? Sessions with your own coach (like me) can help you start to crystallise the important things in your life that you may currently be overlooking.

Practice gratitude
Rather than focusing on what you DON’T have, or haven’t achieved, start to look at all the things you DO have, and all of your life achievements. Go on, take out a notebook or the notes in your phone and start a list.

What are the things you are most proud of in your life right now? What makes you happy? What have been the happiest moments of your life? Notice that these have NOTHING to do with your age?

Try to practice gratitude every day – focus on three things you are most grateful for in your life – they could be people, moments or things. The more you reflect on the good, the more good you will notice you have in your life. Now THAT is something to be proud of.

Treat yourself with love
I go on and on about self love, because it is so damn important to live a happy and guilt-free life. When was the last time you booked yourself in for a massage or facial ‘just because’? Or run yourself a hot bath with candles?

We are constantly putting off looking after ourselves because indulging in pampering can be seen as selfish. To that I say, screw it! Take out your calendar and book something in that makes you feel good – right now.

Regardless of whether we are twenty, thirty or eighty, we deserve to feel loved, special and pampered – and these are all within our own control. I have written a blog in the past about self love, read HERE
