Hands of Love: Anti-aging Hands

Hands, what would we do without them.

They are such an integral part of our body and as we age and look down at our hands we can see they’ve been through a lot.

Hands by the time we hit our late 30’s we’ve done some serious damage. Some might have sun spots, scars, fine lines, wrinkles and loose skin. Often the skin on our hands are worse off because we are so rough with them and neglect them.

So many of our Face Plus Medispa patients always shamefully admit they forget to moisturise and protect (from sun) their hands.

If you’re looking down at your hands and you are guilty of the above statement, don’t worry you’re not the only one. As I type this blog I took a moment to look at my 30 something year old hands and just applied some cream on my hands, in winter you may find that you need to apply at least three times a day.

If you have reached that point where moisturising cream just can’t save you, we have just the treatment package for you.

The “Goodbye Aging Hands” package targets the following concerns:
Age spots
Creped Skin
Dryness
Prominent veins

Texture and tone
Brightness
Lack of elasticity
Healing time

The package contains three components:

1. Home care
Homecare is as important as the in-clinic treatments. The homecare that we have created in collaboration with Ultra MD and

Ultraceuticals is tailored to refresh and brighten complexion, intensely hydrate and soothe whilst supporting the barrier repair function, plump, smooth and protect the skin.

You will be required to use all four products post treatment. This kit is called the “Ultimate Post Care Essentials”.

2. PRP
You will be required to go through the PRP treatments prior to the Lime Light (IPL) treatments. You can read about the extraction and treatment process of PRP here

This component will:
Improve skin colour, elasticity, tone and thickness
Remodelling of the collagen fibres which will assist in the plumpness of the skin

Long term smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles
You will also see faster healing following aesthetic treatments

Overall rejuvenation and revitalisation of the skin will be visible following your first treatment. The two PRP treatments must be performed four weeks apart of optimum results.

3. Lime Light (IPL)
IPL is a laser treatment design specifically to target discolouration on the skin such as pigmentation, sun spots and redness. You can read about the laser treatment process here

Following the laser treatment you will find that the pigmentation will float to the surface of the skin, the more you can see the better! Once this process is complete it, the imperfections will begin to flake off revealing younger, revitalised skin!

In total, this treatment process will not take any longer than 3 months. Following the package, you must continue to moisturise and use sunblock on your hands on a daily basis.

The Refresher: Polish and Plump

Peels and masks are not a treatment that needs to be performed inside a clinic only.

For some of our patients who have problematic or trouble skin, we always recommend a weekly or fortnightly mask to be performed at home. These home treatments will assist the treatments performed in clinic and potentially speed up the process to healthy skin.

One of our go-to product is the two-step system, Anti-Wrinkle Polish and Plump Peel by HydroPeptide.

Some describe this two-step system as a dermabrasion you can perform in the comfort of your own home.

These are the two products you will use if you are looking for glowing, smooth skin instantly.

Let’s get to know the features a little better:
Vitamin C Crystals, inhibits melanin production and improves skin elasticity. The appearance of lines and wrinkles will also improve, whilst instantly illuminating the skin with Vitamin C Crystals that deliver the benefits of microdermabrasion with zero downtime.

The 6 Peptides present improved collagen and elastin, reduces collagen breakdown, restores collagen organisation, improves hydration and reduces repetitive muscle contractions. This will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, lift and hydrate the skin.

Oxygenating Microdermabrasion Crystals, oxygenates, counteracts congestion, improves exfoliation, cleans deeply and brightens. Your skin will become clearer, brighter, smoother, refreshed and more radiant.

5% Lactic Acid, gently exfoliates and increases cell turn over. Read about the importance of cell turn over here

Green Tea, Cucumber and Echinacea, scavenges free radical and acts as an anti inflammatory. This will delay the signs of aging while calming, soothing and refreshing the skin.

You will instantly receive the benefits of a gentle microdermabrasion from a light chemical peel and a pampering facial in this two-step home treatment.

Following just one treatment patients have seen smoother, brighter and healthier skin. There is no downtime and the skin will not flake. The two-step system can also be used to minimise acne scars, nourish aging hands, dry feet and elbows and even reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Nice and tidy: 5 simple ways to clean out your make up bag

Simplify your life by decluttering unwanted or spoiled cosmetic products.

Most women and mums, especially love a good clean out and a declutter but so often the items in the makeup bag is so easily forgotten.

Believe it or not, if cosmetics are not reviewed in a quarterly basis (every three months) it can cause health issues. You may see mascara clump, foundation can spoil and lipsticks can crack. Follow the below tips and your makeup bag will remain bacteria free and your skin will stay nice and healthy!

Replace mascara and liquid and gel liners every 6 to 12 weeks, yep! We’re all guilty of holding onto products but these products are the first to deteriorate. These products are most commonly used and are exposed to air, allowing the moisture content to deplete making formulas dry and clumpy.

This often makes it difficult to apply but bacteria can build up which can cause irritation and infection.

Check expiration dates, kind of like food. An expiry date is there to keep formulas and active ingredients fresh. Check the date when you purchase and keep notes of that.

Throw it away if it has reached the expiry date and sometimes a little sniff of the product might tell you if it’s time to say goodbye.

Invest in quality products, these will last longer. Items such as powder foundations, bronzers, blushes and eye shadow will last up to two years depending on the quality.

We recommend Jane Iredale powders, they are inert, which means they cannot support or harbour bacteria. Find out more about the brand here

Keep your brushes and tools clean, never ever use dirty brushes! This is so essential to keeping your makeup pure and skin healthy.

Any oil or dirt left on the brush will transfer to your powders leaving a hard-shiny film that prevents product from being picked up and applying evenly onto the skin. Find our tips on cleaning brushes here

Check the palette, are they still the right shades for you? Revisit your makeup to ensure it still matches your complexion.

Seasonally your skin colour may change but what about your hair? Hair has a huge impact on what colours match you. Make sure your makeup is keeping up with you!

Interested in having a colour matching session? Visit our Bondi Junction clinic and we can find the right essentials for you.

Love you Mum: Show Mum you care

Mamma I love you!

The Spice Girls really nailed it when they sang:
“I never thought you would become the friend I never had…. So now I see through your eyes, all that you did was love.”
(Anyone else tearing up over here?)

Contrary to popular belief, MOTHERS are a girl’s best friend (followed closely by diamonds). In fact, mothers ARE the diamonds in most of our lives. And the older we get, the more we tend to realise this.

This Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to show your Mum just how much you care. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive gift in the world to express true meaning and gratitude for the wonderful woman in your life.

Here are a few ways to really show Mum you care:
Write her a letter
Time to pour your heart onto the page! Write Mum a big letter expressing just how grateful you are for all she has done for you.

Without giving it much thought, sit and let the words flow. Maybe you end up apologising for something that has weighed you down over the years – something you said or did, but didn’t mean. Maybe you want to list all of the beautiful traits she embodies that you admire.

Whatever it is, pour your heart and soul into the letter and gift it to her with a cuddle on Mother’s day (or send it if you won’t be seeing her!)

This is a beautiful activity to do even if your Mum isn’t around anymore. Never underestimate the power of words – she is still with you, and sharing your feelings with her will feel beautiful for both of you.

Take her for a pamper day
Massages, facials, light therapy treatments…a pamper day is the perfect option for a Mum who always puts others before herself. Make a day of it and start with brunch by the ocean, followed by a beautiful pamper session at one of our Face Plus Medispa locations.

Then finish off with a beautiful tea and sunset walk. (The bonus is YOU get to indulge in the pampering too! It’s a win-win!) Check out our treatment options for Bondi Beach here

Make a scrapbook of memories
For those of you who love to get creative, a scrapbook of memories is a wonderful gift for Mum – and something she will cherish for years to come. You could start from before you were born and work your way through the years, or perhaps pick a few outstanding moments, like trips away, family weddings, births – anything that would feature in your Mum’s ‘highlights reel’.

Not only will the scrapbook capture these beautiful memories, but on gifting it to her you can sit and reminisce about all of the fun times you both shared together. So sweet!

Find a fun activity to do together
For the Mums who like to be more active, why not push the limits and find a fun activity to do together. Websites like Red Balloon are filled with fun ideas – from paddle boarding, to canyoning, to sky diving!

Make it a Mother’s Day to remember, and share an experience that you will look back and smile on in years to come.

What is the best Mother’s Day gift you have ever given or received?
