Active Wear: Skin roll-out

Your bodies are not the only ones that need a thorough workout.

Your skin needs a good workout too. Depending on your skin type, home exfoliation can suffice but as your skin transitions from season to season it’s always a good idea to give a really good work out.

What are your options?
We offer varying grades peels, we’ve discussed some of our top facials here
A treatment that we have not included in the above blog is the “Dermapen” or “skin needling” treatment.

The Dermapen is an incredible micro-needling device that produces tightened, lifted and rejuvenated skin. This skin needling technique will visibly improve the appearance of:
– Fine lines
– Wrinkles
– Surgical, acne and trauma scars
– Stretch marks
– Pigmentation

Pigmentation and scarring is something we recommend you treat during the cooler months as your skin doesn’t see much sun.

The needling works by working with the body’s ability to re-grow and repair the skin as a response to micro-damage.

Approximately 1,300 micro punctures are delivered per second into the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, working with the various normal skin functions.
The body will first release its own growth factors, followed by new epidermal growth, fibroblast chemo-taxis, fibroblast proliferation, and matrix production.

The second phase involves tissue proliferation leading to continued release of growth factors from fibroblasts, keratinocytes and monocytes. The third and final phase and the result we aim to achieve from this treatment is the tissue remodeling process, where the skin’s vascular matrix matures, tightening the skin.

The body’s ability to remodel and heal itself is an incredible resource that is harnessed in this treatment.

As mentioned above this treatment targets a number of concern, in addition:
– Sun damaged skin
– Hair loss targeting alopecia
– Vitilgio

Skin needling is an incredible delivery of nutrients for the skin. Any product applied to the skin during or immediately after a treatment is very easily absorbed directly into the skin, rendering it a much more effective than with a topical application.

A total of three to six treatments are recommended for optimal results.

Turn over: For the love of beauty exfoliate

Achieve glowing skin by doing these daily tips at home.

Our skin is the canvas to the makeup. If the canvas isn’t perfect then the makeup application and appearance will not be as perfect as it could be.

Prior to exfoliating ensure that your skin is cleansed. Cleansing will remove all traces of dirt and free radicals from the skins surface. This should always be the first step prior to exfoliating and of course, prior to makeup application.

Some cleansers can be quite harsh on the skin, here are some of our top suggestions:
For sensitive skin: Dr Spiller, Cucumber Milk Cleanser, $68

For those looking for calming cleanser that foams: Dr Spiller, Sensitive Cleansing Gel, $68

Have mature skin? HydroPeptide, Cleansing Gel, $75
Read about the HydroPeptide, Cleansing Gel here

Followed by a thorough cleanse comes the all-important exfoliation. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells that stubborn and have not been removed in the cleansing process.

An exfoliation uncovers new, smooth skin and this should happen without any irritation.
Our top exfoliators:
For Sensitive skin: Dr Spiller, Jojoba Peeling Cream, $68
This exfoliating cream does not strip the skin.

For skin over the age of 25 that’s looking a little tired and old: HydroPeptide Exfoliating Gel, $69
For more information on this amazing product, read here

The best technique when exfoliating is small circles with your fingertips all over your face and do not forget your neck and décolletage!

Avoid roughly scrubbing your face in up and down, right and right movements with your hands, it’s not a good look and this can cause redness and irritation.
Every now and then you will need a more thorough exfoliation, this is when we recommend you visit the clinic for one of our intense, result driven peels, read more here

If you don’t have time to visit a Face Plus Medispa clinic we highly recommend you try out the HydroPeptide, home microdermabrasion kit, read more here

Essential Wellbeing: Oils

Essential oils have many health benefits and can be used in many ways.

My first memory of essential oils was when I was a child, staying over at my Grandma’s house. She would run me a bath and I would get to choose from her huge array of beautiful oils, which ones I would like added to my bath that night.

There was a feeling of luxury and magic as she added these ‘potions’ to the bathtub and, at the time, I was completely unaware of their benefits to overall wellbeing.

Fast-forward a good twenty years later and my love affair with oils is stronger than ever. Aromatherapy (using aromatic plant/oils derived from plants for holistic wellbeing) is on the rise in the wellness world, and rightfully so.

Not only do these beautiful essential oils smell divine, but their properties lend themselves to some pretty remarkable mind, body and soul support.

Did you know?
Essential oils, at their purest form, are literally the immune system of the plant they come from. Consider a plant – outside in the elements – able to withstand rain, bacteria growth and mould, even desert plants growing without water.

These plants are able to withstand the elements because of their innate immune system – the oil – embedded in them. When we extract these oils and use them ourselves, we are literally utilising plant essence. And it makes sense when you consider everything for our survival comes from nature: the air we breathe, water we drink and food we eat.

It is important when using essential oils that you seek out the purest quality – unfortunately most oils have fillers and added ingredients that are not their purest state.

The oils I use are doTERRA as they are some of the purest in the world – there are literally no added fillers or ingredients – it is simply just the plant extract. You can’t get much better than that!

Here are 5 essential oils perfect for every home
Lemon oil
Derived from the rind of lemons, lemon essential oil is a staple for the home. Not only can you add a drop to your water and drink for the alkalising benefits (without having to squeeze a whole lemon!), but you can use it in cooking (try it in hummus – delicious!) and even gargle with it when you have a niggle in your throat.
Lemon oil is a wonderful oil to diffuse if you want to brighten or liven a room.

It can be added to a water and vinegar solution to make your own natural home-cleaning products. The options are endless!

Frankincense oil
Yes, the oil they gifted baby Jesus. Often referred to as the ‘King of oils’ – Frankincense can be used for almost anything. Diffuse it to promote a relaxing and grounding atmosphere, perfect added with lavender oil to aid sleep.

Add a drop to your moisturiser or nightly skin routine and watch your skin glow (wonderful for anti-ageing benefits and acne-prone skin).

Lavender oil
Lavender is the oil I most recommend to clients as it has a wealth of benefits when it comes to relaxation, supporting anxiety and promoting deep sleep.
For troubled sleepers, add a drop to your pillow case and diffuse in the bedroom before sleep.

I carry my lavender oil with me so that any time I feel anxious or stressed, I can pull it out and inhale. It has a wonderful, calming effect… not to mention it smells DELICIOUS!

Lavender is also a great oil for the skin – just be sure to dilute it with a carrier oil, like jojoba, before applying.

On-Guard oil (blend)
Oil blends are literally as they sound: a blend of pure essential oils, made up for various therapeutic reasons.
On-Guard includes Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary; and is the blend for immune support. Simply diffuse On-

Guard during the cooler months (the warming aroma is perfect now we are headed into Winter) or even add it to water for an all-purpose surface cleaner.

Digest-Zen oil (blend)
The tummy oil! Made up of Ginger, Peppermint, Caraway, Coriander, Anise, Tarragon and Fennel, this spicy-smelling blend has been developed to aid digestion and soothe an upset tummy.

Any time I feel bloated or nauseous, I simply rub a drop or two (diluted in carrier oil) on my stomach, and it settles right down. Also great for motion-sickness, you can add a few drops to a water bottle to sip on any long distance trips.

Consider these are just 5 of the hundreds of essential oils available and you can see that the essential oils love affair is an easy one to dive into.

Feel free to connect with our Wellness Expert if you are interested in introducing oils into your life.

What is your favourite essential oil and how do you use it?

Remember if you are planning on ingesting your oils be CERTAIN they are able to be taken orally/ingested. I am not advising in any way you pick up a bottle from the health food store and add it to your cooking. I use doTERRA oils because I know this to be so.

It’s also important to note that these oils are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
