Internal lift: Re-sculpt

Loose skin and jowls are natural signs of aging, doesn’t mean we need to be ok with it!

The production of collagen slows as we age and this is the main reason why skin loses its firmness, read some of our natural collagen boosting techniques here.

Aging is a natural process and we never suggest dramatic changes to try and wind back the clock. We strongly believe in addressing the underlying causes of facial aging and not just the visible symptoms (wrinkles, lines and jowls).

A product that stands by this belief is the Sculptra injectable treatment. Sculptra is quickly becoming Face Plus Medispa most popular antiaging treatments for anyone aged between 35 to 70 years of age and we know exactly why!

This will likely be music to some ears, Sculptra is a more permanent collagen stimulating injectable! Over time patient s will see facial volume restoration and wrinkles and folds looking fuller and can last more than two years!

The key differences between Sculptra and other collagen boosting products:
Collagen creams are great, if the skin has been taken care of we love the Dr Spiller Collagen cream, read more here.

Ingesting collagen supplements facilitate the production of collagen within the body, try out Beauty Chef, Collagen Elixir , taste great and good for you.

Other injectables we offer at Face Plus Medispa are temporary and will last between 3 months to 1 year. This includes muscle relaxants and fillers. A great alternative for those who are conscious of the signs of aging or looking to enhance certain facial features.

Unlike other injectables the results of Sculptra take about three to four months to fully appear. Patients will require a total of three treatments 4 to 6 weeks apart for optimum results.

The injectable is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps to rebuild lost collagen. Sculptra is injected deep into the dermis.
Sculptra is not designed for those looking for fuller lips, it is ideal for:
Smile lines, between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds).
Marionette lines or laugh lines, these lines frame your mouth.
Chin wrinkles that may be appearing.
If the wrinkles are shallow to deep these can be corrected.
Sounds too good to be true? Let’s get down to the details!
– The results will not be visible overnight like fillers or even weeks like muscle relaxants
– You will need a series of treatments, three in total before results are visible
– This will not reverse the aging process!

It is an excellent treatment for those looking for subtle changes that last over two years!

Any side effects? Following a clinical trial and experiences based on our patient feedback:
– Redness
– Swelling
– Tenderness
– Some pain in injection site
– Bruising
– Bleeding
– Lumps

These are all common side effects that appear following most injectable treatments.

Super strength: HydroPeptide, Up Lift

Often as you age your skin becomes more sensitive and you may also see more fine lines, wrinkles and crepiness.

The HydroPeptide, Up lift has been designed for aging sensitive skin. The gel serum minimises the appearance of crepiness, puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles. Within just 2 weeks of use patients report that skin along their eye contour felt more lifted and appeared less crepey.

The hyaluronic acid present in three different molecular weights targets aging on three levels, acting almost like a filler, promoting elasticity, deeply hydrating and restoring.

Key ingredients:
there are a total of 4 peptides present – anti-dark circle, retinoic like, antioxidants and preservative peptides. The peptides work to drain and decongest under the eye area while enhancing elasticity and skin smoothness, increasing collagen production and glutathione for increased firmness. Dark circles will appear reduced, fine lines and wrinkles, and the eye area will look visibly lifted.

Triple hyaluronic acid, is the key ingredient that addresses skin tightening/ wrinkling filling and hydration. This is often visible instantly and offers long term skin tightening and hydration.

Argan extract, provides the skin with immediate tightening and smoothing. The skin will appear lifted, firmer and see a reduction in crepiness.

Allantoinm bisabolol + Calendula, are anti-inflammatories, calming, soothing and reducing sensitivity.
HydroPeptide, Uplift – $120

The product is safe even to apply on the eyelid area and is suitable for use both day and night.

Tug & pull: Are you stretching your skin?

We don’t mean to alarm you but the way you apply makeup might be stretching your skin.

You’ve heard it all, everything you do can age your skin, if you stay out in the sun, if you don’t use the right creams but your make up application technique?? Especially when you’re apply makeup to cover up those lines and wrinkles!
Read our tips on covering up here

Pulling and rubbing on the skin around your eyes can cause the eyelids to lose elasticity and become more wrinkled. The skin around your eyes are much finer and delicate than other areas of the face, the tugging can really damage the collagen and even break capillaries.

Never fear, there is a solution – be gentle!
The most common wrinkle causing make up techniques are:
Pulling on your eyelid too much when applying eyeliner.
Instead of lifting the lid upwards and stretching the eyelid, gently pull the skin from the corner of the outer eyelid.

We know how difficult it is to get the winged eyeliner right. So, rather than rubbing the mistake or smudge away we suggest you use a cotton tip to remove mistakes or smudges.

Another great tip would be to use liquid eyeliner instead of a pencil liner. Liquid eyeliners glide on more easily and don’t create as much drag as pencil liners.

When it comes to foundation our inhouse makeup artist Rowena’s advice “use a beauty blender or foundation brush as it’s a lighter touch on the delicate skin especially around the eye area”.

Do you tug at your eyes when removing makeup?
By the time you have made the decision to remove your makeup you want it to come off as quickly as possible! Well, try your best not to be so harsh and rushed with the removal, try and be a little patient.

It’s best to soak your cotton pads with a gentle makeup remover and apply them to the eye area, leave them on there until the makeup has completely dissolved.

When it comes to mascara wiping is a big no no!
Gently wipe the lashes upward and down till there is no mascara remaining.
Eye creams need a gentle touch too. Our go to eye cream is the Eye Authority by HydroPeptide, read more here.

Apply your eye cream in a light tapping motion using your ring finger. Start from the inner corner of your lower lid and work your way to the outer corner of your eyes.

So, the key? Use the tools made for the job! You’ve probably seen those young hip Instagram stars using all of the different sponges and brushes? Well, they’re onto something and we should quickly follow suit rather than using your fingers as brushes and blending tools.

Grow & age: Glow from within

As we grow and age, we start to notice changes in our appearance – and sometimes these can be confronting.

Sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles, age marks – all reminders that we are not as youthful as we once were.
But rather than bemoan what we cannot control, how about we start to cultivate a true beauty that shines from within.

You know the beauty we are talking about – whether twenty, fourty or eighty, there are beautiful people the world over who exude beauty from the inside out. This isn’t a cliché – far from it. True beauty is cultivated from within.

Think of the most beautiful people in your life. It could be your mother, your sister or your bestie. Chances are, you aren’t just reflecting on their physical beauty. While that may be a bonus, it is far more likely you see them for the beautiful PERSON they are – their beautiful mind, heart and soul.

We all have those people in our lives – who shine when they walk in a room. Who light up our days. Do you think twice about whether they have sagging skin or an extra wrinkle? Hell no! (And if you do, maybe it is time to take a look at what you deem important qualities in a person. Kindness > smooth skin any day!)

So how can you cultivate that beauty from within?
Practice kindness
To cultivate beauty at a soul level, nothing beats kindness. It could be helping a woman off the bus with her pram and shopping bags or giving a random compliment to a stranger.

Never underestimate the power of positive words – you just don’t know whose day you could leave a little brighter. Random acts of kindness are a wonderful way to develop a beautiful soul that glows from within. Each week, commit to one random act of kindness – it could be paying for a strangers coffee at the local shop, or delivering a bunch of flowers ‘just because’. Watch the world embrace your beautiful soul as kindness becomes a habit.

Love your insides
It’s no secret that what we feed our insides has a huge impact on our appearance. Eating for beauty is the real deal. A serious priority in cultivating glowing skin, healthy hair and nails, and clear eyes, is cleaning up your gut health.

Once your gut is running like a well coconut-oiled machine, you can guarantee your skin will be smoother, bags under your eyes will vanish and you will be glowing from the inside out.
To eat for gut health:

  • Include fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi
  • Load up on good fats like salmon, nuts, avocado and coconut oils
  • Steer clear of gluten, sugar and processed foods (go all natural baby!)
  • Make note of foods that make you feel bloated or uncomfortable and steer clear of these (and if that is everything, it could be an underlying issue in which case, seek the help of an integrated GP or naturopath)
  • Sip on water with apple cider vinegar and lemon (to get those digestive enzymes fired up). Read about all of the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar here
  • Consider a probiotic to support good gut bacteria (speak to your health care professional about the best one for you)

Nothing says beauty like that post workout glow. Not only will your body be thanking you for it, but you will be FEELING beautiful because of the feel good hormones making their way through your system.

Find a form of exercise you enjoy and make it a regular habit: try to exercise every day in some way. Remember it could be as simple as a stroll around your block, or a dive in the ocean – it needn’t be fancy bootcamps or yoga classes (unless that’s your thing – then go for it!)

Look after your body the best you can and watch as you glow from the inside out.

Put YOU first
Above all else, cultivating a beautiful glow from within is about prioritise YOU before anyone else in your life. This is not to be confused with selfishness. Far from it. This is about giving yourself the love you freely give others.

That could be in the form of a bath once a week, a daily meditation practice to relax your stress levels, or committing to a solid 7 hours sleep each night. Whatever looking after yourself means to you, make it as important a priority as your skincare regime, your healthy eating and your exercise.

Rest, do things that make you happy and spend time with people who bring you joy.
Now THAT is the secret to a beautiful life.
