Less perfection more authenticity.
Going makeup free for some is terrifying, for others they would never consider it because their love for makeup and there are those who love going nude, makeup free!
A celebrity we all know that has gone makeup free is Alicia Keys. Her Reason to stop wearing makeup was a part of a journey towards empowerment for herself.
Writing on Lenny Letter, Alicia said “Women are brainwashed into feeling like we have to be skinny, or sexy, or desirable, or perfect. One of the many things I was tired of was the constant judgment of women.
The constant stereotyping through every medium that makes us feel like being a normal size is not normal, and heaven forbid if you’re plus-size. Or the constant message that being sexy means being naked.”
“Every time I left the house, I would be worried if I didn’t put on makeup: What if someone wanted a picture?? What if they POSTED it??? These were the insecure, superficial, but honest thoughts I was thinking. And all of it, one way or another, was based too much on what other people thought of me.”
Alicia finished by saying, ‘I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.’
Go Alicia! There are more practical reasons too:
1. You’ll save money: Studies suggest women spend an average on $15,000 on makeup in a lifetime. We think it’s a lot more!
2. Save on time: How long does it take to perfect your brows or draw that perfect winged liner? Guaranteed you’ll save 10 to15 minutes a day! Imagine the additional sleep in time.
3. Improve skin health: A lot of people wear makeup to cover up their skin. Going makeup free may improve your skin health, give your skin some time to breathe. Great skincare is more important than trying to cover up skin that you’re not happy with.
