And… Lift Off!: Lift and Remove Pigmentation

According to research undertaken by Clinique, 62 per cent of Australian women list pigmentation as a skin concern.

Face Plus Medispa offer Limelight IPL to address concerns associated with ageing, photodamage, skin redness, small veins, brown spots and effects of sun exposure.

This treatment is a non-invasive treatment that targets pigmentation and rejuvenates the skin. The charged energy light is accurately released and absorbed by the pigmented areas, avoiding the healthy surrounding tissue.

To permanently treat pigmentation, we recommend a total of two to five treatments. IPL utilises light in a way to restore your skin gradually & naturally.

Pain and discomfort is not a factor when undergoing an IPL or Limelight. Some describe it as a hot elastic brand that has been swiftly flicked onto the skin. When treating the face, the patient will be provided with eye guards for the duration of the treatment.

Following the Limelight procedure, the skin will appear slightly red which may remain for a few hours up to 24 hours. The pigmentation will darken first, this is a very good sign! It will then rise to the surface of the skin before flaking off. This process can take up to 10 to 14 days.

During the recovery period we recommend Jane Iredales, Mineral makeup range, read about the range here.

We recommend a mineral makeup as it will camouflage the skin whilst allowing it to breathe without interfering with the treatment during the recovery process.

During and after your treatment sun protection is very important and we recommend a physical sunblock, read why here.

Studies indicate 90% of patients who have undergone IPL treatment have a high degree of satisfaction with lasting results. Follow up treatments are usually required every 6 months.

Prior to moving forward with an IPL treatment at Face Plus Medispa all patients must undergo a “patch test”. The patch test is performed in a nondescript area on the body.

Solar power: Solar Defense, Body Guard

We’ve all heard that saying “your body is a temple”, it’s true and it’s important that we take care of the exterior too.

The skin is the largest organ we have. Often we forget about the importance of caring for the skin on the body. Without the protective layer of skin, imagine what would happen to our precious organs, muscles & bones?

Solar Defense Body Guard by HydroPeptide offers protection to the skin whilst nourishing and rejuvenating. We love this multi-talented products!
The body spray is light, refreshing and moisturising.

The spray combines organically derived sunscreens and a synergistic blend of resveratrol and beta-carotene for skin protection.
The body guard will help protect against free radical damage that can lead to fine lines and wrinkles.

When using this product there is no need to moisturise too, this is the only product you will need to use as it replenishes hydration without feeling heavy on the skin.

Aloe and Vitamin E nourish the skin for a flawless finish.
Appropriate for most skin types, it can be applied liberally to the skin. When spraying onto the skin once it becomes visible you just in the rub it in to ensure coverage, simple right?

Solar Defense Body Guard by HydroPeptide, $82

This body spray is a chemical sunblock and not appropriate for those who are seeking to minimise pigmentation and age spots.

To minimise pigmentation and age spots we encourage you to use a product where the main ingredient is ZINC. To gain a better understanding as to why this is the case check out this blog.

Not sure if anyone is wondering but it is scented with a sweet passionfruit scent! We’ve tested the scent in clinic and we all agree, it smells delicious!

Thirsty: Moisture & Matt Lip

Moisturised lips and a matt lip look, not possible! WRONG!

Matte lipstick has the tendency to leave your lips feeling dry at the end of the day. That is because matte lippy’s increase the concentration of ingredients like powder pigments and waxes to create the desired flat, matte finish.

So, what are the secrets to achieving a stylish matte look without giving up the nourishing, moisturising feel you love and deserve?

Mattify with powder
First, begin as you would when applying your favourite lipstick shade. Next, take a tissue and separate the two-ply. Hold one side of the tissue to your lips and dust your favourite mattifying powder through the tissue onto your lips.

The tissue helps ensure you apply the right amount of powder to lock your lipstick in place and provide them with a matte finish. We recommend a powder from the Jane Iredale range, check out your options here.

If you have a blush or eyeshadow share that you like you can create your own matte lip colour! Begin applying your lips with a lip balm (a hydrating one). Then use your finger or an eye shadow brush to gently press the powder on top. You’ve just created your very own hydrating lip shade!

Line and fill your lips with a lip pencil, no lipstick. The waxes and oils give you a matte look without leaving your lips feeling dried or chapped.
If the above tips don’t do it for you, have you thought about exfoliating your lips?
It’s easy to do all you need is a face washer and steam! Read the instructions here.

Critical: Don’t be the judge or jury

The judgement card in the Tarot deck can intimidate some people.

Simply the word ‘judgement’ itself implies negative connotations – because when we are judged, we are often being criticised, no? When someone judges you, they are focusing on what you should change.

Likewise, when we pass judgment on someone else, we are often criticising the person they are and the decisions they are making.

However, the judgement card in Tarot isn’t about this. In fact, you should be EXCITED if this card is pulled for you. It is all about changes – periods of reflection in your life, and starting new chapters. Questioning what is working, what isn’t and growing from there.

As humans, we are conditioned to think hyper-critically. It is a residual effect of our fight or flight instinct – to be driven by fear, which in turn, means we often see the world through negative lenses.

However, the more judgement we pass on others, and ourselves, the more likely we will continue to open our minds to criticise things rather than acknowledging the GOOD people are doing in the world.
As a coach, my eyes have been opened to the intricacies of human nature. I am not allowed to judge in my role. In fact, I tell my clients, there is a zero judgement policy. Clients can come to me with

WHATEVER is happening in their life, and know they are in a completely safe space. So whether they are battling an eating disorder, fighting with their parents over money, or even have had an affair, they know they can work through these things with me without so much as batting an eyelid. We are human. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes.

Here’s the thing. We are our own harshest critics. When we do something ‘wrong’, betray our own moral compass or just behave differently to how we would normally like to, we will beat ourselves up for it far more than anyone else in our lives could – stranger or not.

What matters is how we work THROUGH this behaviour and take it as a lesson to better ourselves and our lives.
Rather than casting judgement on a friend who is considering rekindling with her ex after he treated her poorly, try giving her love instead.

Know that in reality, the only person’s actions we can control are that of ourselves. Tell them how you feel, but finish with – no matter what you decide, I am here for you.

Read our tips on support and boundaries here.

Similarly, if you have someone in your life making what you would consider a poor decision – by all means offer advice. But if they don’t want to hear it, respect that. Allow them to live the life of their choosing – and hold the space for them to vent and talk and cry and come to the decision themselves.

Judging actually doesn’t help anyone – especially the person DOING the judging. Often when we are triggered by the behaviour in someone else, it is pointing to a deeper underlying issue within ourselves.

Read our blog on flick negativity here.

Catch yourself the next time you are passing judgement on somebody – what is that judgement saying about you and your values?

What is the lesson for you here?

And how can you flip the judgement to a more loving position of support and care?
