Nudie Rudie: Plan a makeup free summer!

When summer rolls around your goals is usually to try and wear less makeup given that it melts off soon after.

The key to a makeup free look all boils down to the health and quality of the skin.

Laser Genesis is the answer! Before you roll your eyes and say you can’t have laser during summer, well this one you can!

Laser Genesis is a treatment that can be performed on almost all skin types, age groups, gender and anytime of the year.

Laser Genesis is an innovative and technologically advanced laser that promotes glowing and healthy-looking skin.

Laser Genesis targets skin concerns and conditions that are associated with premature signs of aging and sun damage, something we see a lot in our patients due to our climate.

Excessive redness, large pores, uneven skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles can be target by this laser treatment.
Scientifically proven to produce new collagen the Laser Genesis treatment is a non-invasive laser technology that safely and discreetly and of course effectively treats fine line and wrinkles, diffuse and reduce excessive redness and minuses pore size, uneven skin texture and scars.

Laser Genesis works by gently heating the upper dermis which is located below the skin’s surface, stimulating collagen regrowth. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.

As the dermis is gently heated, fine structures such as the microvascular are targeted and ultimately type 1 collagen is formed with cross-linking fibres. No gel or anaesthesia is required. A Laser Genesis treatment is usually described as relaxing a therapeutic.
We recommend a total of 6 treatments four weeks apart but following your first treatment you can expect to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment.

At Face Plus Medispa we often combine a Laser Genesis treatment with the Face Plus Signature Enzyme Facial or an LED light for optimum results.

On guard: Non-Tinted Skin protection

The sun is incredibly harmful to the skin.

Repeated and ongoing exposure ultraviolet light (UV radiation) from the sun accounts for almost 90% of Symptoms of premature skin ageing, skin damage and skin cancer.

The sun us a carcinogenic and harmful to the skin. Just a few minutes of sun exposure in Australia, each day over the years can cause noticeable changes to your skin.
As you age and spend more time in the skin, it loses the ability to repair itself and the damage will continue. Studies have shown that repeated exposure to UV breakdown collagen and impairs the development of new collagen.

Elastic is not safe from the sun either! You will find that skin weakened from sun exposure does not snap back compared to skin on your body that is protected from the sun. The combination of collagen and elasticity loss leads to skin becoming loses, wrinkles, and leathery much earlier with un protected exposure to sunlight.
Every man, woman or child must make the conscious effort to protect their skin.

There are all kinds of sunblock’s available on the market and we won’t explain the difference between all of them here, check out our detailed blog on various sunscreens here.

Heated Conditions: How to store makeup in summer

In Australia we spend an average of $8 billion a year on beauty and an additional $10.5 billion on personal care.

Given such statistics it’s good to know how to best store all of your precious beauty and “personal care” items.
Heatwave conditions in Australia are very common, you may have experienced thickened nail polish, dried out mascara, thinning hand cream and two-toned foundation. These are all signs your items could be suffering in heatwave conditions too!

Producers of such products do test the stability of the goods under temperatures up to 54’C so that the product is safe and isn’t compromised BUT the products cannot be protected against UV light exposure which can compromise certain ingredients inside the product.

Here are some of our summer makeup storage tips –
1. Check the use by date: There should be a symbol on all beauty products that looks like a jar with an open lid. The “M” on the symbol represents months and the number following that represents the number of months. This must be adhered to once the product has been opened.

2. Keep perfume in the shade: Oils and alcohols in perfume don’t do well in heat and light. Don’t rush and pop the perfume in the fridge as it also doesn’t do well in extreme temperature fluctuations. The best thing to do is to keep it in a cool, dry and shaded area.

3. Store creams fridge: Ingredients inside the cream can become inactive if left in hot conditions. Added bonus of popping the eye cream in the fridge is upon application the cooling effects acts as an anti-inflammatory!

4. Don’t pump your mascara wand: The pumping action fills the tube up of oxygen which shortens the life of your mascara by drying out.

5. Makeup belongs in room temperature: Makeup hasn’t been tested for extremely cold temperatures. It’s best to keep it in a shaded area that is out of direct sunlight. Nail polish is best kept at room temperature also, if you so store it in the fridge you must wait for it to return to room temperature before applying the polish. The refrigeration does assist in prolonging the shelf life of a nail polish.

6. Refrigerate natural products: If a beauty products main ingredient is edible, you should always keep it in the refrigerator so it won’t go off.

Planning: When you fail to plan, you plan to fail

You’ve all heard the quote: when you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Planning, while tedious at times, is a must if you truly want to succeed – be it in a new lifestyle approach with food or exercise, calling in a new job, or even purchasing a new home or jet setting around the world.

Without a plan in place as to HOW you will approach these tasks, you can often feel like you are running blind. And that’s when stress builds up.
So, what is your planning style and how can you make it FUN?

The list-maker
My personal planning style of choice, lists are an easy, organised way to stay on top of things. Be it a ‘to do’ list for your daily working tasks (categorised from most important task to least important task if you are super on top of it), a shopping list so you don’t miss all the new healthy foods for your meal prep, or a weekly list of life-admin tasks to complete – lists ensure you capture all those ‘to dos’ running wild in your mind, by putting them on a piece of paper, or the notes in your phone, (or both) so you know there is no way you will forget anything.

It’s about ‘getting out of your head and onto the page’ – and the satisfaction that comes with ticking off a list is second to none!

The visionary
For those of you who are more visual-oriented. The visionary plans goals out by literally visualising what the end result will be – be it a dream holiday destination, home or picture of health. Once you SEE it right in front of you, you are able top get to work.

This is where vision boarding can be extremely helpful – as it gives you a starting point to jot down your plans of action working back from the end result. Pinterest is a great online platform for those of us seeking a visual medium for our planning – or you can go totally old school and attack old magazines with scissors, sticking your goals on a cork board.
Check out on blog on goal setting here.

The numbers-gal
Where are my spread sheet lovers at? The numbers-planners LOVE all things budgets, equations and Excel. These planners enjoy sitting down at the beginning of the month and allocating where their money, and energy, will go. Driven by clean sums, and striving for a green tick at the end of the month, numbers planners are operationally driven and see things as black or white (not often space for the in betweens).

This is all about categorising and being straight to the point. Numbers planners make great Chief Operations Officers by the way.

The strategic mind
Strategic thinkers like to dabble in a little of all of the above – the lists, the numbers and the vision – creating a giant capture-all of planning. They are also partial to the odd pie-graph or chart, and are happy to analyse the HOW’s of things: exactly HOW are you going to lose those 5 kilos, or HOW are you going to make the exact amount of money to fund that next investment?

The key to this level of planning is breaking the giant tasks down into bite-sized chunks and chipping away at them, one at a time.

The stationery fiend
Then, there’s those of us who love Kikki K, and will stock up on their latest stationery haul just to keep up to date with the latest planning trends.

Your desk is probably filled with printed calendars, different types of to dos lists, post it notes and a hand-held diary and note book, rather than working out of your phone. Because sometimes, technology just doesn’t do the job.
Read our blog on transitioning through change here.

You may be one of the above, or perhaps ALL of the above at times – regardless, remember that planning is a KEY component to living your best life without the stress or angst that comes with forgetting what it is you are working towards.
