Two birds, one stone: Sweat & Frown less

So many things to love about Australia but the summers are what makes you fall madly, deeply in love.

There is a downside to summer, the sweating and the extra wrinkles that always appear! Those extra lines are due to damage and aging caused by the sun. We often squint when out in the sun, causing crows feet and of course a large majority of us either sweat off our sunscreen or never wear enough!

Read about the importance of sun protection here.

The solution? MUSCLE RELAXANTS!
How do muscle relaxants such as Botox & Dysport assist sweating?

Muscle Relaxants such as Botox & Dysport are injected into the skin to treat symptoms if sever seating in areas such as the underarms, palms and forehead when medicines used on the skin topically do not work well enough.

Botox completed a clinical study on 104 patients suffering from severe underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). 84 (81%)out of the 104 patients who were treated with Botox achieved a greater than 50% reduction in sweating.

Whilst it may vary from individual to individual, following just one treatment you will experience drier underarms or palms for up to 6 months.

Particularly for the underarms, you nurse injector will make 10 to 15 injections into the area through a very fine needle.  A significant reduction in underarm sweating should be visible within 4 weeks of your first treatment.

The same theory applies to any other area you might receive muscle relaxants such as the forehead. Approximately, 4 weeks following your Botox or Dysport treatment in your forehead you will notice your forehead will not be beading with sweat!

It has also been found that use of muscle relaxants on the forehead improves skin! Why? Because you don’t sweat as much!

You are an ideal candidate for this treatment if you relate to any of the following statements:
I change my clothes more than twice a day due to my sweating.
I carry supplied such as extra clothes, antiperspirants, powers or towels to help manage the symptoms of my excessive sweating,
I use prescription antiperspirants, powders or deodorants to control my sweating.
I spend more than 3 hours a day dealing with my under arm sweat.
The sweating interferes with my daily activities.

The fine line: Greasy VS Dewy

Is it just us or do we constantly battle between maintaining a healthy, dewy glow without looking greasy and overly shiny?

This is a battle fought both during summer and beyond!
Oily skin is especially more difficult because you can go from radiant to greasy in one hot second! Follow some of our easy tips to keep that oil production at bay while allowing your natural dewiness to shine through!

Prep work
Start with a smooth clean canvas. Be sure not to start with oily skin straight away. Make sure you have a suitable skincare regime in place to create a healthy balanced canvas.
Exfoliating is also key, why and how can be found via our “Turn Over” blog.
You want to add the glow and dew with your makeup.

Mattify
Don’t reach for the powder straight away. Whilst it definitely reduces shine in certain areas, powder can take the mattifying too far, to the point where it can look a little too flat. Rather than setting your foundation and concealer with powder, apply a small amount of mattifying or silicone based primer to your shine prone areas – T-zone. Our primer recommendations can be found here.

Misty mist
Use a setting mist to ensure your makeup stay flawless all day long. Our favourite spray is the POMMIST Hydration Spray by Jane Iredale, $49

Containing no nasties, it helps conceal pores, fine lines and boosts SPF!

Spark-less
When it gets sweaty the last thing you want is glitter stuck to your skin. Shimmer, sparkles, glitter and all things shiny work against your dewy goals. Unfortunately the sparkles tend to draw more attention to the fact that you may be greasy. Reach for a subtle highlighter that will subtly illuminate.

Pack it
If you have a bag big enough, it’s always a good idea to pack a few tools that you may need to touch up throughout the day.

The facial mist will come in handy, you may also want to pack blotting sheets.
Try to avoid powdering throughout the day, unless you really need it.
OR avoid makeup altogether, stick to a great tinted sun block and book yourself in for some Laser Genesis, the laser facial treatment that will give you the confidence to go makeup free. Read how here.
Come and get us sweaty summer days and nights!

Confidence: Being summer (body) ready

Summer Ready!

With Summer on our doorsteps, one of the first talking points in many women is their ‘summer body’ and how they have been slaving at the gym, or prepping meals like never before, to get themselves in shape for Summer.

While the notion has some merit, given Summer does imply less clothes and more bikinis, it also perpetuates the idea that your body, as it is, is not enough for Summer – regardless of how you look, how much you weigh or how often you train.

In my eyes, being Summer ready is less about how you physically look, and more about how you FEEL! What are the feelings you are trying to cultivate in aiming for a ‘Summer body’? Is it confidence? Self-worth? Value?

Know that, right now, you have the ability to feel these things REGARDLESS of what you look like in a bikini or how many likes your beach-pose selfie gets.
Here are some top tips to cultivate a beautiful Summer

FEELING in your body:
Smile
Smiling is the quickest, easiest way to send feel good endorphins to our minds, creating feelings of genuine happiness and love. And who doesn’t want more of those in their life? Practice making a conscious effort to smile every single day. Try it as you are driving, showering, looking in the mirror. Yes, you may feel uncomfortable at first, but you will also start to notice that feel-good rush is so easy to come by.

As the saying goes, the sexiest curve on a woman is her smile. Own it!

Splurge
Now is the time to treat yourself, and your wardrobe, to something that makes you feel good, sexy even! Be it a beautiful new bikini, a summer dress, or a pair of gorgeous heels – invest in a piece of clothing that you will really love wearing, and that makes you feel all of those feels you are seeking – confident, sexy and light! Often we wait for an occasion to splurge on ourselves, but really – there’s no time like the present! If it makes you feel good, (and you have saved the money) then go for it!

Switch
Consider switching to natural beauty – and this doesn’t just mean toning down the makeup in the warmer months. Our skin is our largest organ, absorbing more than 60% of what we put on it straight into the blood stream. With that in mind, mainstream beauty products are FULL of carcinogens, endocrine-disruptors and chemicals. Make the switch to natural beauty products and your skin will be glowing like Summer in no time. Check out the Depths of Beauty blog for tips on making the switch. Read our blog “We care about that flare: Make up for sensitised skin”.

Self-love
What truly makes your body feel good? Is it a warm candlelit bath with essential oils? Maybe a massage or a facial or a reiki session? Coming into the Summer months, it is easy to forget our pampering rituals, however there really is no better time! Cultivate self love by investing own what makes you FEEL good – and you will surely shine from the inside out. Read More About Reiki Massage here.
