“A man who treats his woman like a princess is proof that he was raised by a queen” – Wiz Khalifa

This week at Face Plus we are experiencing Royal Wedding Mania. I personally cannot wait to spend my Saturday night on the couch with a glass of Pimm’s watching the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

My partner can’t seem to understand my obsession. I was always a big fan of Suits and the British royal family, respectively, so it’s only natural that I’m invested in their relationship.

There’s just something so fairy-tale like about a prince choosing a commoner (their words, not mine) to be his princess wife. Meghan is an incredibly accomplished woman in her own right.

She is a talented actress and a human rights activist who also happens to be divorcee and a few years older than her fiancé. As much as it’s a traditional love story, it’s also a very modern indication of the Royal family accepting a new age woman into their conservative royal world.

When I read that Meghan Markle was 36 years old I was shocked. She looks a decade younger. With gorgeous, glowing skin an even complexion and only the slightest touch of smile lines she gave me even more reason to be totally envious of her.

As an actress Meghan would need full use of her facial muscles, ruling out excessive use of muscle relaxants and filler. While there are reports circulating online that Meghan has had a touch of Botox to smooth out her frown line, you can tell that she really looks after her skin which is the true testament to her ageless appearance.

I asked our cosmetic injectors to tell me about the kind of treatments that they think Meghan Markle has undergone. Our dermal therapists were quick to jump in and say that it’s obvious she has a very strict and consistent at home skincare regime supplemented by regular facials. By examining close up photos of Meghan, you can see her pores are tight and her complexion even.

When you look at photos of Meghan’s mum, you can clearly see where she got her amazing features from, so her genes also have a lot to do with it.

Our cosmetic injectors believe that if Meghan was to try any injectable treatment it would most likely be PRP (platelet rich plasma) – your body’s natural alternative to artificial muscle relaxants and filler.

Using your own body’s resources, PRP works by drawing a vile or 2 of your own blood and injecting higher concentrations of platelets back into your skin.

This will release growth factors to the treatment site and stimulate new cell growth and regeneration. Your blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma.

When platelets are activated in the body they release healing proteins called growth factors. Growth factors create an accumulative result, which assists the body to repair itself by regenerating new tissue, improving blood supply and would healing, all of which are important factors in regenerative therapies.

At Face Plus we recommend between 3 to 6 treatments of PRP, 1-month apart for patients to see noticeable signs of skin tightening, improved texture and tone, with less fine lines and wrinkles.

PRP can either be injected directly into the skin using a tiny syringe used for administering muscle relaxants or it can be needled into the skin.

This treatment is known as micro-needling or dermapen. This electric ‘pen’ has a series of tiny needles on the end that work to quickly and gently prick the skin to create micro wounds.

These wounds engage the body’s natural repair process, encourages new skin growth and repair, increasing collagen and repairing damages or areas that may be scarred.

When combining needling and PRP, the skin is first needled then the plasma is directly applied to the surface of the skin, as it directly feeds into the micro wounds. The direct contact enhanced the effectiveness of PRP as the plasma is injected into the desired area.

The Dermapen & PRP combinations targets:
Rough or inconsistent skin texture
Sun damage
Acne scars
Stretch marks
Fine wrinkles
Signs of aging
Broken capillaries
Large pores

While we can’t guarantee a PRP and micro-needling session will transform you into Meghan Markle, we can guarantee the treatment plan will leave you with her Markle youthful Sparkle.

Product of the week: Aevitas BB Finish 1 in 5

I used to think that good skin was down to well applied makeup.

That was clearly before I got a job in beauty. Make up is an add on, it’s not the core item. To achieve good skin, you need a combined process of meticulous at home care, consistent dermal appointments and a balanced, healthy diet and lifestyle.

While it’s common for many teenagers or young adults to want to cover up their blemishes with heavy layers of foundation, all that is, is a bandage solution for a gaping wound. The focus, instead should be to heal the aggravated skin.

That being said, as women, we often want to look and feel our very best and an easy way to do this is with some cover up. Whether it’s to even your skin tone, diffuse redness/pigmentation or disguise a blemish – we want a product that is healing rather than harmful for your skin.

The new Aevitas BB Finish is a 5 in 1 product designed by Omniderm, a subsidiary of Dr Spiller Skincare. A skincare company is the perfect fit to manufacture makeup as it ensures the ingredients contribute to the health and vitality of your skin.

The BB Finish by Aevitas Actives is nothing like you have experienced before in a complexion product. It delivers the most even-toned skin finish with the added boost of skin nourishing ingredients that will protect, moisturise, brighten and firm the skin.

The product is Australian made and owned and the ingredients used are organic, natural and rich with active ingredients. The 5 in 1 BB Finish is jam packed with:

  • enriching Omega 3
  • 6 fatty acids
  • Antioxidants
  • Vitamin A, C, E and D

The product comes in 5 different tones

  • Illuminate
  • Accentuate
  • Titillate
  • Fascinate
  • Captivate

This colour adjusting and brightening formula is the equivalent of ‘health food’ for your skin. A hydrating, concealing complex that will achieve your coverup goals without harming your skin cells.

The Markle Beauty sparkle

“We are two people who are really happy and in love” – Meghan Markle

As the world prepares to stop and watch an American TV Actress marry a real life prince, the question on everyone’s lips is….what is she going to look like?

Meghan Markle has captivated women all over the world with her dazzling dimple smile, large brown eyes, glowing skin and shiny hair. She is the IT girl that found fame on Suits and caught the eye of Britain’s most eligible bachelor. She is a classic beauty with a simple beauty routine that you can copy too.

The best thing about Meghan is that unlike most notoriously shy royals, she is not afraid to speak her mind and spill her beauty secrets.

The following information has been collected by beauty interviews conducted with Meghan from Allure, Beauty Banter, BirchBox and Beauticate.

What is your beauty routine?
“I play around. I love Jan Marini skin-care products. I’ve been using their serum lately. It’s a nice glycolic one that makes your skin really glow-y. And I really love the Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder. It just sort of foams on your face and gives you a really subtle exfoliation. I also use Revitalash on my eyelashes, and I swear they are as long as they could ever be.”

What are your must-have makeup products?
I love Nars blush in Orgasm. I use it on and off camera because it gives you a nice glow from within. My favorite mascara is Diorshow Iconic, and then I love the Make Up For Ever HD Powder) It lets your skin look shiny and fresh, but not greasy-shiny.”

How does your makeup look differ from your Suits character?
“I am so much more low-key in real life. She’s so polished. And it’s in HD, so the steps that go into looking good on a show are very different than in real life. I don’t wear foundation in real life. My routine is very simple — I call it the five-minute face. It’s just Touche Éclat, curled lashes, mascara, Chap Stick, and a little bit of blush. That is my favourite kind of look. If I’m going to amp it up for night, then I use M.A.C. Teddy eyeliner, which is a really beautiful brown that has some gold in it. A makeup artist I work with often, Kayleen McAdams, turned me on to it. It’s what she uses on Sofia Vergara, and who wouldn’t want those gorgeous brown almond eyes?”

The interview excerpt above was with Meghan before her royal encounter with Prince Harry, so how has her beauty style evolved since meeting the prince?

Meghan has noticeably toned down the ‘glam’ on her red carpet looks. The smoky eyes being replaced for more golden tones.

Since being linked to Prince Harry, Meghan has stuck to a palette of neutral tones against bronzed, glowing skin, which is both timeless and chic.

This is a clear indication of her royal transformation from screen siren to future princess. While Kate Middleton has made a signature look of her strong eyeliner, filled in brows and blushed cheeks, Meghan is still experimenting with her appearance.

There are, however, a few consistencies to Meagan’s everyday look:

  1. She applies foundation sparingly to avoid covering up her signature splatter of freckles.

“Only apply foundation to the spots you need it and spread it with a beauty blender,” she says, “I never want to cover my freckles, so we just do a ‘wash’ of foundation in certain sections instead of over the entire face.”

  1. She keeps her lips natural. With her golden features speaking volumes, Meghan leaves her lips natural and moisturised but not glossy or filled in. This simple switch up makes her appear a lot more natural and relaxed.

Meghan’s go to product is Chapstick or Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip TreatmentThe very best lip balm, in Meghan’s opinion. “I swear by it,” she says.

  1. She always wears under eye concealer to keep her face camera fresh

YSL Touche ÉclatThe one product Meghan reaches for to look “relatively alive” after a gruelling 17-hour workday.

  1. She always has clean, shiny, blow-dried hair

Meghan’s hair is her crowning glory. While she isn’t afraid to mix of her hairstyles, from messy updo’s, big girls or a bouncy blow dry she always start with the foundation of clean, smooth hair.

These are her go to hair care products:
Kérastase Nutritive Masquintense Thick MaskMeghan says she uses her Kérastase products religiously. This mask is ideal for nourishing sensitised, dry hair.

Kérastase Bain Oléo-Relax lineThis range smooths frizzy hair into glossy tresses, like Meghan’s.
Oribe Dry Texturizing SprayMeghan waxes lyrical about this cult product, saying, “When my hair is feeling a little weighted, Suanne, my hair artist…has me bend forward and she sprays a little Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray…and then has me ‘flip back hard’ to give my hair a little extra bounce.”

So what can we expect from Meghan on her big day?
My guess is a modern take on Grace Kelly.

I think she will wear her hair in a messy up do fixed with a traditional tiara and veil and she will keep her makeup simple and glowy.

I think she will make a point to enhance her gorgeous bronzed skin with lots of caramel and gold tones and keep her lips hydrated and matte to let her million dollar smile shine through.

The rules of royalty: etiquette lessons for the modern-day princess

What does it mean to be a Royal?

There is something so incredibly fascinating about the royal families of the world. It’s their old school, traditional ways of dressing and behaving and conforming to regulations that no longer have value in our modern world.

In saying that there are some etiquette tips that even the modern woman should learn to master. A princesses’ polish and poise can easily translate to the boardroom, dining room and bedroom.

These royal etiquette tips will give you the cutting edge you need to display timeless class in modern day.

1. Posture makes perfect
I did 10 years of ballet lessons and while I can’t thank the classes for destroying my feet, I can be grateful for my lifetime lesson of ensuring good posture.

My teacher always told me to stand as if a thread is pulling up through your stomach up, into the centre of your neck and through the middle of your head. Stand tall, shoulders back and down with your chin parallel to the ground.

Posture is of critical importance, not only to the royals but to how people perceive you. It is noted that good posture represents self-worth and confidence….so stand tall.

2. Deliver a meaningful handshake
They say your handshake reveals a lot about your personality. If you want to act royal, here’s the breakdown of the official (kind of) royal handshake: Keep direct eye contact with the person in front of you, grasp their hand firmly but not painfully, shake for one or two pumps (no more!), and shine a royal smile.

A handshake can also accompany a kiss on the cheek. It is recommended that both men and particularly women learn to adopt a handshake policy in business. It is a social greeting that sets a positive tone to the start of a business relationship.

3. The ladylike leg lean
Duchess Kate is the poster child for royal elegance – surprising considering her ‘non-royal’ upbringing. She always sits straight up with an egg-width distance between her back and the seat and her chin parallel to the floor.

Her legs stay together with a slight lean, which prevents people from seeing up her dress. You will note she never crosses her legs. Not only does this lift the skirt too high to reveal some scandalous thigh, but it also leaves an impression on your leg which is bad for photos.

If you have to sit on stage, or in a public forum, try the leg lean. For extra comfort tuck one ankle behind the other and place your hands in your lap – this will help you with your balance and ensure you don’t slouch.

4. Hold your teacup in a pinch & your wine glass by the stem.
Despite every British farce, you never, and I repeat never, raise your pinkie in the air when you drink a cup of tea.

Pinch your fingers together through the handle and use the other hand to hold the saucer.
As for wine, by holding the stem you avoid heating the wine and also dirtying the glass with your finger marks.

If you are wearing lipstick, make a point to drink from the same spot to avoid a ring of colour.

5. Hold utensils in the correct hand
While we don’t expect every family to set their table with three types of forks and knives like the royals, you can demonstrate proper table manners that will make you a polished and perfect dinner party guest.

Hold your knife in your right hand and you fork in your left with the fines facing down.
Instead of stabbing your food, balance your food on back of your fork, then bring it to your mouth. This will encourage you to take smaller portions and digest your food mindfully.

These every day tips will trick everyone into thinking you’ve attended finishing school…just like a royal.
