The vampire facial: PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Do you want hauntingly youthful skin? Then PRP is the natural, rejuvenation treatment you need to try.

Using your own body’s resources, PRP works by drawing a vial or 2 of your own blood and injecting higher concentrations of platelets back into your skin.

This will release growth factors to the treatment site and stimulate new cell growth and regeneration. PRP treatments work on all three layers of the skin, epidermal, dermal and subdermal. Clinical studies have shown significant improvement in skin sagging and firmness.

How does PRP work?
Your blood is made up of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. When platelets are activated in the body they release healing proteins called growth factors.

Growth factors create an accumulative result, which assists the body to repair itself by regenerating new tissue, improving blood supply and would healing, all of which are important factors in regenerative therapies.

What does the PRP treatment involve?
Once the nurse has drawn the patients’ blood it is processed in a highly specialised, state of the art centrifuge machine, specifically designed to extract the plasma in a safe, clinical manner.

This process takes 6-9 minutes at which time the nurse will begin prepping the treatment site with ice and/or topical numbing cream.

When the centrifuge process is complete the nurse extracts the plasma from the vial and begins the injectable treatment. The PRP is then injected into the areas that require tissue remodelling and rejuvenation.

Who is PRP suitable for?
Face Plus Medispa does not advise patients to undergo this treatment if they have any of the following issues:

  • a platelet or blood disorder
  • cancer / patients undergoing chemotherapy
  • patients with acute or chronic infections
  • patients undergoing anti-coagulant therapy
  • patients that are pregnant or breastfeeding

Please note that if you are a heavy smoker, heavy drinker, or sun worshipper you will not get the best result from PRP. Results do vary based on the age, health and hydration of the patient.

What are the results from PRP?
Your skin texture will respond as new tissue cells grow and results may take 3-6 weeks and continue for up to 6 months. At Face Plus Medispa we recommend a minimum of 3 treatments performed one month apart before you can see visible results.

Patients often get compliments from friends and family saying they look refreshed and healthy.  This is an ideal outcome expected from undergoing PRP treatments.

PRP is suitable for the following issues:

  • For overall facial rejuvenation
  • Loose wrinkled skin on the neck
  • Wrinkling around the eyes
  • Acne scars
  • Scar revision
  • Stretch marks

Cleansing Gels

If you like to wear a lot of makeup, or like us you are getting Halloween glam this weekend, you might need to consider adding a cleansing gel into your skincare routine.

Face Plus Medispa stocks an extensive range of cleansers from milk to gel formulas, however, it is important to match your cleanser to your skin’s requirements.

A milk cleanser for example is a bit too gentle to remove stubborn eye and contour makeup which is where a gel base comes into play.

For some skin types it may even be necessary to use two different cleansing products i.e. a cleansing gel for the first wash followed by a cleansing milk for the second wash. As part of a healthy skincare routine it is important to ensure you are double cleansing your skin both morning and night.

1st Cleanse (to remove makeup and environmental debris)
2nd cleanse (to ensure the skin is clean)
Double cleansing is incredibly important as you need to remove all physical and environmental toxins before re-hydrating the skin with topical products.

You need to start with a clean canvas.

Below is Face Plus Medispa’s top 2 gel cleansers. These gel cleaners will properly dissolve your makeup and lift the dirt/ residue from your face.

If you do have sensitive skin, we would recommend switching to a milk cleanser for the second cleanse as is a gentle way to now focus on cleaning the skin itself, as opposed to the product layered onto the skin.

Dr. Spiller Sensitive Aloe Cleansing Gel

This water-soluble cleansing gel cleans the skin without stripping and drying it. It is the perfect cleanser for sensitive, reactive or oily skin types.

The aloe vera extract acts to smooth and sooth the skin whilst reducing visible redness that can occur when you cleanse your skin after a prolonged period of wearing heavy makeup.

HydroPeptide Cleansing Gel

The HydroPeptide Cleansing gel is an all in one miracle product. It combines a makeup remover, toner and anti-ageing cleanser together to make your skincare routine super-efficient.

This lightweight gel formula is massaged with damp hands into the skin and gently dissolves dirt, oil and makeup while balancing excess oil production.

The product is gluten, paraben, phthalates, sulphates and cruelty free.
