Chin liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery to reduce a double chin and contour the neck and lower jaw. A heavy chin or double chin is a common problem in men and women of all ages. Fat under the Chin and neck can sometimes be resistant to diet, weight loss and physical exercises. If a double chin persists it can obscure your neck contour making your chin look fat.
Chin liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes double chin and contours the neck and jawline. It is one of the most popular neck rejuvenation procedures. It targets the persistent fat under the neck skin, which is “sucked” out using a liposuction cannula. The results are a more defined jawline, chin, and neck.
Chin liposuction has other names including:
If you have a lot of chin fat and lax skin, submental liposuction can be combined with a neck lift. However, in patients with good skin elasticity, the skin can naturally tighten after liposuction without needing a lift.
Chin fat removal can be performed under local or general anaesthesia. It requires minimal downtime and causes minimal post-op symptoms.
You might want to get your chin fat removed but, sometimes, submental lipo might not be the best option for you. In general, you should consider getting liposuction for chin fat if:
The main thing you need to consider when getting neck fat removal by lipo is your skin quality. If you have a large double chin with loose skin, then the skin might not retract on the new contours. A neck lift procedure should, and often is, combined to contour your chin and neck.
Overall, recovery after chin liposuction is regarded as tolerable. This is one of the top advantages of this procedure. You can usually go home directly after double chin surgery- no need to stay overnight at the hospital.
You will have to take 1-3 days off work and rest at home. During this time, you should allow your body to heal. During the first week of recovery after submental lipo, you should avoid strenuous activities. Walking, however, is encouraged. You should also wear a chin compression strap for 5-7 days to reduce swelling.
You will notice swelling, bruising, and minimal pain in the chin, jaw, and neck area. These will gradually start decreasing 5-7 days after chin fat removal.
The results of chin liposuction are apparent immediately after the surgery. Nevertheless, the full results take several months to settle in. During this time, your skin will retract and any residual swelling will be absorbed, leaving you with a well-defined chin, neck, and jaw.
As with other surgeries, liposuction of chin fat comes with some risks. Nevertheless, the risk of complications with this procedure is very minimal. Some of the rare complications include:
Although these complications are rare, you can avoid them better by choosing an experienced plastic surgeon for your chin liposuction.
