Face Plus Medispa’s Top 5 Skin Recommendations for Spring

As the blossoms start to bloom and the sun graces us with its warmth, it’s the perfect time to refresh and rejuvenate your skin for the vibrant season ahead. At Face Plus Medispa, we’re thrilled to share our top 5 skin recommendations to help you achieve that radiant springtime glow.

Here’s what we have in store for you:

1.Bioremodeller

We have said it once and we will say it again…this treatment is GAME-CHANGER!

With one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market, this injectable treatment is used on the face, neck, decolletage, hands and body to treat skin laxity. The results we are seeing are remarkable with significant lifting and tightening of the skin.

Bio-remodeller is the treatment that stimulates the body’s natural processes to rejuvenate and remodel the skin, involving collagen production and tissue regeneration.

You can read more here.

2. Herbal Hydration Peel

With only natural herbs it delivers results akin to a strong micro-dermabrasion procedure without any damage to your skin. This peel is regenerative and corrective to suit most skin conditions. Perfect for fine lines and pigmentation.

Herbal Aktiv Beauty Peel is a natural peeling procedure for skin regeneration based on a mixture of natural herbs. It provides immediate glowing plumped skin with no down time or visible peeling.

If you are looking for something a bit stronger we recommend leveling up to our Herbal Phyto Peel.

3. Collagen Plumping facial

The supreme performance of the Dr Spiller Collagen Fleece Mask will improve skin elasticity and restructure damaged skin. This facial will smooth lines and wrinkles while it soothes and hydrates the skin. You’ll get an incredible “WOW” result.

This treatment causes the induction of collagen directly into the skin, providing an instant glow and phenomenal results. We love this treatment all year-round.

4. Dermapen

A micro-needling treatment that targets the deeper layers of your skin to repair and reprogram damaged skin cells. A popular anti-ageing treatment to treat wrinkles, acne, rosacea and pigment to bring back that youthful glowing skin.

The Dermapen microneedling pen provides an unparalleled response through the segmented delivery of microneedles, creating micro injuries to the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and dermis (the inner layer of skin). As a result, the micro injuries encourage the body’s innate ability to repair itself.

5. Skin Refresh Package

Suitable for skin concerned with ageing, acne and uneven skin tone, this skin refresh package retexturizes the skin resulting in a smooth plump and refined complexion whilst offering collagen induction therapy.

Includes

2x Cosmedical Peels

3x Dermapen with LED

We recommend this package all year-round, however, especially at this time of the year. It offers a great way to get your skin on track towards the warmer months and clear up any underlying congestion and pigmentation.

Collagen Supplements – Are They Worth The Hype?

Collagen, often referred to as the body’s “building blocks,” is a remarkable protein that holds a vital role in maintaining the structure and health of various tissues and organs. With its abundance in the body, collagen supports everything from skin elasticity to joint flexibility. In recent years, collagen supplements have gained significant attention for their potential to boost collagen levels and enhance skin, hair, joint, and bone health. In this article, we’ll delve into the different types of collagen and their benefits, helping you make informed decisions about choosing the right collagen supplement for your needs.

Understanding the Types of Collagen

Collagen comes in various types, each with specific roles and functions within the body. The most prevalent types of collagen are types I, II, and III, each catering to different areas of wellness.

Type I Collagen

Type I collagen is the most abundant in the body and plays a significant role in maintaining the integrity of the skin, tendons, bones, ligaments, and connective tissues. This collagen type is often derived from cows and can be found in both grass-fed bovine and marine collagen supplements. Its presence in the skin is particularly crucial, as it contributes to the skin’s pliability and youthful appearance.

Studies have shown that oral supplementation with hydrolysed type I collagen can lead to smoother facial lines and wrinkles, as well as improved skin moisture levels. While the benefits of ingesting collagen type I are clear for skin health, its impact on wound healing when taken orally requires further investigation.

Type II Collagen

Type II collagen is primarily found in cartilage, bones, and other connective tissues. This type of collagen is sourced from animals like chickens and cows and is utilized to support joint health. Though it may not have a pronounced impact on skin health, type II collagen could potentially help manage pain and swelling, particularly related to joint conditions like osteoarthritis.

Type II collagen is less prevalent in collagen supplements compared to type I, making it an option for those specifically seeking joint support. It’s important to note that type II collagen is present in marine collagen but not in grass-fed bovine collagen supplements.

Type III Collagen

Type III collagen works in tandem with type I collagen to maintain skin health, elasticity, and joint function. Unlike marine collagen, grass-fed bovine collagen contains type III collagen, making it an appealing choice for individuals looking to promote healthy skin and overall vitality. Research suggests that type III collagen may play a significant role in skin aging, as its content decreases with age. This type of collagen is crucial for fibroblast function, which, in turn, contributes to collagen and elastin production, thus supporting wound healing and skin health.

Choosing the Right Collagen Supplement

When selecting a collagen supplement, it’s essential to consider your specific health goals and requirements. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  1. Type of Collagen: Identify the type of collagen that aligns with your needs. For skin health and overall well-being, both type I and type III collagens are essential. For joint support, consider collagen supplements containing type II collagen.
  2. Source: Determine whether you prefer marine collagen (sourced from fish) or grass-fed bovine collagen (sourced from cows). Each source has its benefits, so choose based on your dietary preferences and needs.
  3. Quality: Look for reputable brands that provide high-quality collagen supplements. Opt for products that have undergone testing for purity and potency.
  4. Form: Collagen supplements are available in various forms, including powders, capsules, and gummies. Choose the form that suits your convenience and lifestyle.
  5. Additional Ingredients: Some collagen supplements may include additional ingredients like vitamins, minerals, or antioxidants. Assess whether these additives align with your overall health goals.

In summation, collagen supplements offer a convenient and promising way to support skin, hair, joint, and bone health. With different types of collagen catering to various aspects of wellness, understanding your individual needs is key to selecting the right supplement. Whether you’re looking to enhance skin elasticity, manage joint discomfort, or promote overall vitality, the world of collagen supplements holds a wealth of possibilities to explore and incorporate into your wellness journey. Always consult a healthcare professional before making any significant changes to your supplement regime.

Spring into Spring

SPRING INTO HEALTHY SKIN

6 steps to shed your Winter skin and get your pre-summer glow!

Exfoliate

Winter weather can be tough on our skin, more so this year with so much time spent at home and hidden under face masks. Heating and hot showers can leave us feeling dry, flaky and with Covid preventing us being able to get to our usual Skin Clinics until now, we have had to make do with what we can find on the Cosmetic shelves.

I see a LOT of AHA and BHA based “chemical” exfoliants, which with over use or on the wrong skin types can leave skin inflamed and unhappy.

They have their place but chat with your Dermal Therapist to help you find what is best for your skin and when to use.

If you love the idea of a Lactic serum that will plump, hydrate and exfoliate over night with zero irritation, O Cosmedics Multi-Functional Peel is the one!

For the scrub lovers, Jojoba beads provide the perfect sphere particles for an effective yet gentle “physical” exfoliation. Dr Spiller Jojoba scrub will leave you beautifully smooth and hydrated.

Fruit enzymes provide a great exfoliation for even the most sensitive of skins or those prone to blackheads. Applied like a mask these multi fruit acids will gently buffer away your dead skin cells, doing all the hard work for you!

Plus, big hits of vitamin C gives you the perfect pick me up post Winter and a great brightener for pigmentation. O Cosmedics 3 in 1 Peel is a firm favourite.

Hyaluronic Acid

A glass of water for your skin! We hydrate from the inside out, why not from the outside in?

This ingredient is for everyone! Generally, we all suffer from dehydrated skin, whether it be sensitivity, feeling lack luster, fine lines occurring or breakouts more present, a serum for all!

Most corrective serums are Hyaluronic based as it offers the perfect delivery system for actives. Niacinamide, vitamins and antioxidants are infused to correct even the most stubborn of skin concerns and give an overall plump.

A Lighter Weight Moisturiser

With the temperature warming and humidity rising, we often opt for something a little lighter as our day cream. This ensures our skin keeps beautifully hydrated throughout the day without that 3:00 shine.

Dr Spiller Sensitive Beauty Day or O Cosmedics Rebalancing cream the perfect option, especially for oiler, problematic skin types, preventing epidermal water loss in a hyaluronic based emulsion.

Melanin Inhibitors

For those of us that struggle with uneven skin tone, whether it be hormonal based melasma, solar lentigines through excess sun exposure or post inflammatory due to trauma, tyrosinase inhibitors are a must.

O Cosmedics B3 or Brightening Serum can be used separately or together for maximum effect, diffusing current pigment and inhibiting future from appearing.

Sunscreen

A non-negotiable!! The sun (in Australia especially) accounts for 90% of visible changes to our skin. Photo damage is the lead cause of collagen and elastin breakdown so you can find yourself spending all this money on anti-aging skincare but its possibly all go to waste if you’re not protecting yourself against those UVA/UVB rays. Not to mention pigmentation!

A common problem I hear is that people hate the feeling of sunscreen “it’s too oily”, “I break out” which is why I like to opt for a physical sunscreen, made from natural Zinc Oxide/Titanium Oxide other than a chemical sunscreen. So, no nasties!

O Cosmedics Tinted Sunscreen is a big hit! 20% zinc oxide leaves an anti-inflammatory, mattifying, sheer cover and great protection against our Aussie sun. Also available in non-tinted.

Gut Health

We all know how much easier it is to gorge on a bowl of salad when the sun is beaming and you know swimwear season is around the corner, but what goes in on the inside is sure to show on the outside.

Including a wide range of nutritional food sources is paramount to getting those internal vitamins and antioxidants.  All of which will do wonders for your skin. Book in for a consultation.

How to Avoid ISO Skin

Iso skin is the real deal! As our world has turned upside down in the last few weeks, it’s important not to leave your skin care behind.

It’s now week 5 of self-isolation, so any slacking off should be over! Yes, we’ve all been guilty of overindulging in sugary food, alcohol, and countless hours of Netflix binging, however it’s important to keep some structure and routine in your life for both physical and mental health, as well as the health of your skin.

Now is not the time to let your skin go!

1. Consistency is key!

Don’t get slack with your morning and evening skincare routine.

Like with exercise, progress doesn’t happen overnight. For visible results or even to maintain a healthy glowing complexion, your skin requires consistency. Cleansing, applying SPF, and moisturising are everyday essentials.

2. Don’t forgo the sunscreen

Being inside doesn’t mean that you’re off the hook and can skip the sunscreen. In fact, UVA light (PRESENT WITHOUT SUNSHINE) can penetrate right through window glass, which means that you still are at risk for premature aging and skin cancers. UVB rays can also penetrate through glass, which also contributes to aging of the skin.

3. At-home facial

I would encourage people to do an at home facial, at least once a week.  It will help to decongest the pores, improve circulation, remove excess dead skin cells and support the skin with beneficial nutrients like vitamins, proteins, minerals and antioxidants.

In this order: Double cleanse, exfoliate, mask, serum, moisturise
If you are missing a steam facial:
Fill a bowl with hot water and position your face over the bowl with a towel over your head to let your skin open up – you would do this after cleansing!

Tip – Massage in finishing products:
Give yourself a facial massage to boost blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. It is important to use very hydrating, rich ingredients as the skin is massaged – begin at the chin and gently stroke outward. Follow a similar pattern on all areas of the face: remember always up and out with your movements!
And –  NO at home extractions pretty please!!!

4. Nourish from the inside out

So, we nourish our skin not only topically, but also from the inside out. This can for some people be the most important way to keep their skin healthy as gut related issues can cause havoc on our skin. During stressful times we are often prone to eating more comfort foods.
Try avoiding heavily processed foods and strong dairy products as this can congest our skin. People suffering from breakouts should look at limiting sugary, starchy foods. Look instead at having lots of leafy greens, good fats such as avocados – I mean who isn’t a sucker for eggs and avo toast?? Adding things like chilli flakes and pepper to that takes it up a notch and chilli flakes are anti-inflammatory, boost metabolism and are full of essential vitamins.

Foods rich in Vitamin A include salmon, eggs, fish, broccoli, spinach, and most dark green, leafy vegetables, and adding that Vitamin A is a godsend for those suffering from acne.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant which also assists with immunity. As Vitamin C is not stored in your body, eating foods rich in it, such as oranges, is important.
Smoothies are also a great booster, adding bio fermented probiotic rich elixirs and powders from the Beauty Chef can help unlock glowing skin and a healthy gut.

5. EXERCISE!

Aerobic activity helps to protect the skin from free radicals, synthesise hyaluronic acid and can even slow down the ageing process.

Oxygen intake is key for this to happen so move and work out daily, even if it’s just a little.
Remember slow and steady wins the race! It’s the same when it comes to skincare sticking to a basic routine is best.

If you are unsure what products are best suited to your skin or what to do when, please get in touch, we are always here to help 😊! During self-isolation we offer virtual skin consultations with our dermal skin therapists to help you with your iso skin care. Our skin craves stability, let’s do it! Click here to learn more.

Laser Genesis: Taking Light Years Off

We are constantly looking for the quickest way to achieve radiant skin and usually go to great lengths to hide our imperfections from our peers.

Luckily, we can easily dupe others into believing we were blessed with ‘good genes” with the help of non-ablative lasers.

“LG” or Laser Genesis is the most popular laser facial at Face Plus Medispa, and with good reason!

It is not painful, does not require any topical numbing agents, and has no down time! It is a non-ablative laser which means unlike ablative lasers it leaves your epidermis intact.

The laser energy gently heats the upper layers of the dermis; diffusing micro dilated capillaries, reducing redness and flushing associated with rosacea, stimulates collagen, reduces excess oil flow and improves microcirculation.

This is the perfect lunch time treatment to return a healthy glow to tired skin as your expected treatment time is usually 45 minutes to an hour to treat a full face.

Laser Genesis involves delivering heat gradually, allowing the heat to intensify to create the illusion of a wound without the physical trauma. In a sense, it tricks the body into a healing process by delivering the correct amount of heat and this is where all the magic happens for your skin.

After a few treatments you can expect to see reduced pore size, minimized appearance of most scars and a smoother texture, to give the skin a lustrous appearance.

Treatments are best a month apart and 3-6 treatments is ideal for optimal and effective results. After that an annual top up is ideal for maintenance.

Kendall Jenner, one of the younger Kardashian sisters recently credited her skin to regular Laser Genesis treatments, allowing her to keep her acne breakouts at bay and lighten existing scars.

LG very much represents the new way of thinking ‘face’. No longer do we think that we can improve the face and skin by damaging it. That ‘ablative’ view of lasers went out of fashion in the 90s and naughties, replaced by a caring and nurturing attitude to your precious skin.

Our experienced, gentle and precise staff will tailor the ideal treatment plan for you and your skin needs, based around this amazing laser technology.

However we do advise a consultation prior to treatment as this will be paramount in deciding if this treatment is suitable for your specific skin condition. We advise special precautions to the following prior to your clinical evaluation;

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure or fake tanning for two to four weeks prior.
  • Avoid topical agents known to cause irritation (strong exfoliants or peels, steroid creams, waxing), two weeks prior.
  • Consider taking natural supplements or antiviral medication for prevention if you are prone to cold sores and the area to be treated is near or on that area affected.
  • Males are to ensure they are cleanly shaved as the laser may burn hair or increase heat on that area.
  • Advise your therapist if you are currently undergoing/or have undergone, antibiotics,  isotretinoin treatment or with drugs in a similar class within the last six months.
  • Cosmetic tattoos will also need to be avoided and if necessary covered during this procedure.

At Face Plus Medispa we often team LG with other treatments such as; our bespoke facial treatments, cosmeceutical and exclusive product range, and or other health and wellness treatments such as massage, acupuncture, IV therapies and a selection of injectable treatments from our expert nurses and doctors.

From now until the 10th of August 2019 we are offering a 4 for the price of 3 treatments for Laser Genesis. Click here for more information.

Escaglow: Snails in Skincare

Increasing collagen and elastin and restoring radiance – Super Snails indeed! The Escaglow Facial is now available exclusively at Face Plus!

We could not be more excited to announce that the EscaGlow Facial is now available across all three of our clinics!

This amazing treatment incorporates Dermapen with Tensage Intensive Serum 40: promoting intensive skin repair and healing. At the same time as reducing fine lines and wrinkles, it enhances skin tone and contains growth factor benefits.

Tensage Intensive Serum 40 is the only physician-dispensed skincare line that utilises the secretion and eggs from snails. Who could ever have imagined that this seemingly unremarkable little gastropoda is in reality quite remarkable! The snail in the spotlight is the Cryptomphalus aspersa snail from Santander, Spain. Their ancestors date back to the Precambrian period where life was only possible in the sea!

500 million years later these little guys are nourished in a sanctuary with a diet of carrots and lettuce to produce a secretion with a clinically proven healing power that stimulates the human body’s own stem cells to form new, healthy skin cells.

It was originally shown to be effective in treating humans with cases of radiation dermatitis following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. After this discovery scientists began harnessing the secretion for skincare benefits.

The secretion is safely collected in a non-harmful, patented process by placing the snails in a gently rotating vehicle to stimulate the excretion process. Afterwards snails are returned to their sanctuary for several weeks.

The eggs are very carefully collected from the sanctuary then rinsed and refined to produce the CellPro technology which is clinically proven to help rejuvenate skin and reverse the visible signs of photo-
damage.

The EscaGlow Facial exclusive to Face Plus Medispa is a results driven treatment that incorporates the luxurious touches that our clients have come to expect from our dermal therapists.

It incorporates Dermapen, application of the Serum 40 as well as a relaxing head and shoulder massage whilst the cooling mask is on. Our clients also take home a daily repair kit that supports the treatment and enhances skin rejuvenation and increased collagen production.

With little to no downtime and optimal results after just 3 to 6 treatments we are all falling in love with the Cryptomphalus aspersa!
We are running an introductory promotion until the 30th of June, 2019. Click here for more information.

  • What is your diet like? Have you had any issues relating to your gut?
  • How does stress play into your life?
  • Do you notice changes in your skin in relation to your menstrual cycle?
  • What are your skin goals
  • Do you have a timeline/ event to work towards?
  • Do you have a budget/ work schedule that we need to factor in

These questions form the foundation of a treatment plan to help keep both you and your therapist accountable.

We love to follow up the consultation with an initial treatment which is bespoke to you based on the points raised in your talk. This is a great way to kick start your journey to your best skin.

We always recommend any new clients to come to their consultation armed with any skin health questions they may have. They are also welcome to bring in any products they are using that they wish to have some clarification on.

Clean & Clear Skin

We have the ultimate treatment combination to combat stubborn breakouts.

CLEAR AND CLEAN SKIN PACKAGE $1100 (from $1800) save $700
Ideal for acne prone, congested skin
3 X SIGNATUR ENZYME FACIALS WITH LED LIGHT THERAPY
3 X HERBAL PHYTO PEELS WITH LED LIGHT THERAPY

What is acne?
Acne is a condition that occurs at the base of the hair follicle within the oil glands. It usually requires a medical diagnosis and it appears within the skin predominately in adolescent years and often middle age.

Acne is determined by the appearance of pimples, pustules, comedones (black heads) and hyperkeratosis (the excessive build-up of dead skin cells).  Acne occurs when follicles become blocked with dead skin and trapped sebum (oil). It is this anaerobic (no oxygen) environment that bacteria thrive on.

What should you do if you have acne?
Suffering from the skin condition Acne can mean several things. It is important not to search the web, self-diagnose or self-prescribe.

Many of our clients at Face Plus have spent countless amounts of money and time on incorrect, inefficient and even harmful treatments and products to try and settle their acne.

At Face Plus we strongly advise you to educate yourself with the guidance of an experienced and trained dermal therapist. The first step to managing your acne is to find the triggers that have caused the acne to appear in the first place.

Sometimes these triggers are easily identifiable but, in other cases, may require further medical testing. This is a crucial step to understanding the appropriate treatments and products to treat the acne.

Understanding Adult Acne
Adult acne is more frustrating as it is commonly associated with teenagers going through puberty. For teenager’s acne is usually triggered due to the elevation of the androgen hormone.

However, for adults it can be a combination of several factors such as stress, poor diet, poor hygiene etc. To read about the main triggers of acne read our blog post here

Acne treatments at Face Plus
At Face Plus we offer a wide range of incredible treatment options for patients with acne.
We start with a thorough skin care assessment.

Together with your trained dermal therapist we look at your diet, lifestyle, medical issues, skincare products and routine.

We then would follow the assessment up with a bespoke 1-hour facial. Usually this first appointment would involve a good cleanse, exfoliation, potential extraction and purifying mask. A must have add on for acne-prone patients is our LED Light Therapy. The Blue light in particular helps to settle and neutralise the acne bacteria and speed up the skins recovery process.

Enzyme Facial $160
Ground spelt and natural kaolin enzymes are key ingredients used which suit all skin types and sensitivities. Enzymes are a safe and effective natural way to facilitate exfoliation, help overall biological processes in the skin that have slowed down because of age or sun damage and to inhibit free-radical damage.

Enzymes accelerate biochemical reactions in a cell that would proceed minimally or not at all if the enzymes were not present.

This deep yet gentle exfoliation is suitable for even the most sensitive skins such as those clients with active acne. The Enzyme treatment removes the stratum corneum surface of the skin which will leave the complexion smooth, hydrated and glowing.

Herbal Hydra & Phyto Peels ($270 & $280)
Using the power of selected botanical strength herbs, the Herbal Hydration & Phyto Peel were made for clients concerned with:

  • Targeting skin sensitivities such as Acne
  • Brightening the skin
  • Increasing plump and improving texture
  • Cellular rejuvenation
  • Anti-Aging

The peel activates the skin’s metabolism and detoxification by increasing circulation. The skin is supplied with oxygen and nutrients by the improved microcirculation.

The treatment also activated the skin’s repair mechanism through targeted, controlled irritation. The herbal and phyto are gentle enough for clients with Acne, while still working to repair the skins barrier for stronger, healthier skin.

After treatment patients will see an immediate visible difference and the skin will feel instantly rejuvenated.

Patients with Rosacea should aim to have one treatment fortnightly, with a total of six treatments to achieve long term revitalised, calmer and smoother skin.

Pumpkin Peel by HydroPeptide (used in the 1-hour customised HydroPeptide Facial $195)
The Pumpkin Peel simultaneously clarifies, exfoliates and draw out impurities while nourishing the skin with peptides, vitamins, enzymes and nutrients.

The naturally occurring salicylic acid and enzymes in pumpkin remove dead surface cells, leaving skin looking and feeling smoother and clearer. The skin will be more even and have a healthy glow following treatment.

SGA (Sebaceous Gland Ablation)
SGA is utilised when a sebaceous gland is affected by acne and breakout. Out of the 1200 sebaceous glands per square cm there are only a very small number of these affected by acne or break out.

The affected sebaceous glands are treated with an ultra-fine probe delivering a localised electrical current to destroy the glands, one by one. Once the sebaceous gland has been ablated or destroyed the tissue with the use of heat it can no longer breakout.

It is not a one-off treatment, patients will see results following two to six treatments. These glands are below the surface of the skin and often we are unaware of the size and detection can take several treatments.

Short, sharp treatments will be repeated until the acne is gone and does not return!

There can be some bleeding from the acne lesions whilst the treatment is being performed and the sebum extracted from the gland following the diathermy.

Following the session, the skin will remain “bumpy” for about 7 to 10 days. Patients will usually not experience pain or discomfort following their treatment and the inflammation they had before the treatment will dissipate days following the SGA treatment.

SGA should be performed in conjunction with other facials and herbal peel treatments.

Dermapen
Similar to our laser treatments on offer, dermapen would never be performed on a client with active, cystic acne. It is however, used to improve the skin texture of a client overcoming a long bout with acne.

Dermapen is a hand-controlled device with small, shallow needles to puncture the outer layer of the skin. The micro-injuries to the skin will stimulate the body to produce new collagen and elastic.

The freshly produced collagen will rejuvenate your skin by filling in fines lines, resulting in an overall improvement in the texture and tightness of your skin by removing wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks.

Laser Genesis & IPL
Laser Treatments should never be performed on clients with active, cystic acne, however, can be used to treat mild post inflammatory pigment (redness) and is excellent for treatment acne scars.

Treatments for Rosacea

Treatments for Rosacea

What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that affects the face. It is often mistaken for acne, eczema, or a skin allergy. Rosacea most commonly presents as blushing, prolonged periods of redness and inflamed blood vessels.
The symptoms of rosacea include:

  • enlarged capillaries (telangiectasis)
  • a permanent flush across the nose and cheeks
  • yellow-headed pimples on the forehead, cheeks and chin
  • non-tender lumps under the skin
  • mildly swollen cheeks and nose (hyperplasia)
  • frequent blushing
  • a sensation of burning or stinging
  • a rash that is confined to the face.

Rosacea clients present with much thinner, reactive skin and they display a lot more of their capillary junctions. The exact causes of Rosacea are not known but a number of factors can trigger symptoms such as stress, free radical damage, heat, spicy food and red wine. There is no cure for rosacea. However, there are various treatments which can relieve the signs and symptoms. A combination of medications, dermal products, dermal treatments and lifestyle changes generally give the best results.
Best Face Plus Treatments for clients with Rosacea:
First our trained dermal therapists need to assess what type of Rosacea you have as the skin condition can manifest in different ways. For example, some clients with rosacea have dehydrated, sensitive skin. Others may have rosacea combined with acne and inflammation. Rosacea can be a genetic condition and runs in their family. Often people with very fair complexions are predisposed to it, or it can appear later on in life. The diversity of this skin condition means the treatment and product plan needs to be tailored to the client.
The Goal with these treatments is to rebuild the skin’s integrity and enrich the skin with antioxidants and calming ingredients to help settle and neutralise the redness.

  1. Signature Enzyme Facial

Ground spelt and natural kaolin enzymes are key ingredients used which suit all skin types and sensitivities. Enzymes are a safe and effective natural way to facilitate exfoliation, help overall biological processes in the skin and it also works to inhibit free-radical damage. Enzymes accelerate biochemical reactions in a cell that would proceed minimally or not at all if the enzymes were not present.
This deep yet gentle exfoliation is suitable for even the most sensitive skins such as those clients with Rosacea.  The Enzyme treatment removes the stratum corneum surface of the skin which will leave the complexion smooth, hydrated and glowing.
Must have treatment add on for clients with Rosacea:
Yellow LED Light
LED Light Therapy is a non-invasive revolutionary light therapy treatment which can reduce pore size, improve health and vibrancy of the skin, promote healing of damaged or compromised skin and can remove bacteria which causes redness and inflammation in acne-prone skin.
Yellow LED Light: Rebuilds and strengthens tissue at a deep level which leads to a softening of lines while triggering the healing process of the skin. Yellow LED provides deep dermal stimulation and heals the skin from within.

  1. Herbal Hydra Peel Calm & Herbal Phyto Peel Calm

Using the power of selected botanical strength herbs, the Herbal Hydration & Phyto Peel were made for clients concerned with:

  • Targeting skin sensitivities such as Rosacea & Acne
  • Brightening the skin
  • Increasing plump and improving texture
  • Cellular rejuvenation
  • Anti-Aging

The peel activates the skin’s metabolism and detoxification by increasing circulation. The skin is supplied with oxygen and nutrients by the improved microcirculation. The treatment also activated the skin’s repair mechanism through targeted, controlled irritation. The herbal and phyto calms are gentle enough for clients with Rosacea, while still working to repair the skins barrier for stronger, healthier skin.
After treatment patients will see an immediate visible difference and the skin will feel instantly rejuvenated. Patients with Rosacea should aim to have one treatment fortnightly, with a total of six treatments to achieve long term revitalised, calmer and smoother skin.
Laser Treatments:
Laser treatments should only be attempted by Rosacea clients who have managed to control the severity of their symptoms. Laser treatments effectively cause heat and a micro trauma to the skin which can cause flare ups in reactive skin types. At Face Plus Medispa, we recommend a series of enzyme facials and herbal peel treatments before commencing with Laser.

  1. IPL

IPL is amazing to zap away the capillaries which are quite pronounced in clients with rosacea, however, the technician needs to be conservative with the levels and the amount of heat used on the skin as it can cause a reactive effect. This treatment should only be performed on clients that have built up to a healthier more balanced skin barrier.

  1. Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis is great for diffusing redness in your complexion, however, the laser genesis builds heat within the skin so you would need a client that has also worked extensively to rebuild the balance of their skin before beginning this treatment.
Clients with Rosacea need to ensure that their at home skincare routine compliments the work performed in clinic by our trained dermal therapists. Rosacea clients need to be extremely conscious of the kind of topical products they use day to day if they want to achieve long term change and settle the symptoms associated with Rosacea.
